Cartographier et maintenir la structure de normalisation et préparer, réviser et maintenir les normes internationales et les produits connexes de l’IEC concernant les spécifications de sécurité, de performance et de compatibilité pour : a) les lampes électriques et les sources de lumière électriques b) les culots et les douilles c) Appareils de commande et de contrôle des lampes électriques, des sources de lumière électriques et des équipements d'éclairage électroniques d) Luminaires e) Systèmes d'éclairage f) les équipements divers liés aux points a), b), c), d) et e) Un système d'éclairage est une combinaison de sources de lumière, de luminaires et d'équipements connexes qui interagissent ensemble pour satisfaire aux exigences des applications d'éclairage telles que le confort des personnes, la sécurité, l'environnement et la consommation d'énergie. Le système d'éclairage peut servir à une fonction visuelle ou non visuelle. Le système d'éclairage peut comprendre des composants physiques, la communication entre les composants, des interfaces utilisateur, des logiciels et des réseaux pour assurer des fonctions de contrôle et de surveillance centralisées. Une définition du terme "système d'éclairage" est en cours d'élaboration au sein du WG 14. Les spécifications de compatibilité peuvent inclure les exigences nécessaires à la coexistence, l'interopérabilité et l'interchangeabilité entre les composants d'un système d'éclairage. Il est reconnu que la limite de la responsabilité des produits du TC 34, les interfaces et protocoles avec d'autres produits, et les comités internes et externes à l’IEC peuvent avoir besoin d'être spécifiés. Pour les systèmes d'éclairage dans les bâtiments, le TC 34 est responsable des sources de lumière, des luminaires, des appareils de contrôle, des protocoles dédiés et de certains aspects des réseaux dédiés.
