Ophthalmische Instrumente - Ophthalmometer (ISO 10343:1997)

IS0 10343: 1997(E) Foreword IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IS0 technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. IS0 collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. International Standard IS0 10343 was prepared by Technical Committee lSO/TC 172, Optics and optical instruments, Subcommittee SC 7, Ophthalmic optics and instruments. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD o IS0 IS0 10343:1997(E) Ophthalmic instruments - Ophthalmometers 1 Scope This International Standard, together with IS0 15004, specifies requirements and test methods for continuously or digitally indicating ophthalmometers. Certain types of ophthalmometers (designated as code 1 in table 1) are capable of measuring radii of curvature of contact lenses as described in IS0 10338l). It is assumed that the local cornea1 front surface and both contact lens surfaces are spherical or toroidal. This International Standard takes priority over IS0 15004, if differences exist. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Internatinal Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this International Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. Members of the IEC and IS0 maintain registers of currently valid International Standards. IS0 8429:1986, Optics and optical instruments - Ophthalmology - Graduated dial scale. IS0 15004:- 2), Ophthalmic instruments - Fundamental requirements and test methods. IEC 601-l :1988, Medical electrical equipment - Part I: General requirements for safety. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this International Standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 ophthalmometer instrument designed to measure and indicate the radii of curvature and principal meridians of the human cornea’s central area and contact lenses 3.2 distance-dependent ophthalmometer ophthalmometer in which the result of measurement is influenced by the distance between the instrument and the surface to be measured 1) IS0 10338:1996, Optics and optical instruments - Contact lenses - Determination of curvature. 2) To be published. 1 SIST EN ISO 10343:2000
