If these substances are not used in the manufacturing process of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel or any of its raw material and are not known to occur in any stage of production process, then the panel does not need to be tested. 4.4 Release of other dangerous substances National regulations on dangerous substances, other than those already covered in other clauses of this standard, may require verification and declaration on release, and sometimes content, when construction products covered by this standard are place on those markets. In the absence of European harmonized test methods, verification and declaration on release/content should be done taking into account national provisions in the place of use. NOTE An informative database covering European and national provisions on dangerous substances is available at the Construction website on EUROPA accessed through:
http://ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/cp-ds/index_en.htm 4.5 Metals for which content restrictions apply to construction products used in interiors The thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels shall be tested according to 5.4. The contents of the following substances shall be determined: — Cadmium (Cd) (CAS 7440-43-9) and its compounds; — Lead (Pb) (CAS 7439-92-1) and its compounds. If these substances are not used in the manufacturing process of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel or any of its raw material and are not known to occur in any stage of production process, then the panel does not need to be tested. oSIST prEN 17104:2017
prEN 17104:2017 (E) 9 4.6 Heavy metals 4.6.1 Requirements The migration of heavy metals from the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel, expressed in mg/kg of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel, shall not exceed the values given in Table 3 when measured in accordance with 5.5. If these substances are not used in the manufacturing process of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel or any of its raw material and if the raw materials are declared by the supplier to satisfy the requirements of Table 3, then the panel does not need to be tested. Table 3 — Maximum migration of heavy metals Heavy metal Symbol Maximum migration mg/kg Antimony Sb Declared value Barium Ba 500 Selenium Se 165
4.6.2 Interpretation of results The analytical results on migration of heavy metals and other elements from the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel, obtained from the tests specified in 5.5 shall be corrected by subtracting the value of the analytical correction factors given in Table 4 in order to obtain a corrected analytical result. Table 4 — Analytical correction factor Element Sb Ba Se Analytical correction factor (as a percentage) 60 30 60
The thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be considered as satisfying the requirements of this European Standard if the corrected analytical result is equal to or less than the limits indicated in Table 3. Given the precision of the methods specified in 5.5, the corrected analytical results shall be used to take into account the results of inter-laboratory tests (see EN 71-3:1994, Annex D). 4.7 Vinyl chloride monomer The maximum content of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be less than or equal to 0,1 % (w/w) when measured in accordance with 5.6. If vinyl chloride or the products containing vinyl chloride are not added during manufacture and if the raw materials are declared by the supplier as containing less than 1 mg/kg of vinyl chloride, the test is not necessary. 4.8 Impact resistance The impact resistance of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels shall be evaluated. The thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panels shall be tested according to 5.7. oSIST prEN 17104:2017
prEN 17104:2017 (E) 10 The impact resistance shall be evaluated by determining the 50 % impact-failure energy (E50), the energy that will cause 50 % of the test specimens to fail as defined hereafter. Failure occurs when a crack or a break appears on the test specimen (see examples given in Figure 1). White discolorations are not considered as cracks.
Figure 1 — Examples of specimen surfaces damaged by a “crack” The thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall have a E50 higher than 15 J and the performance of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be expressed as > 15 J. NOTE This threshold protects from the risk of break of the panel and protects the wall. 4.9 Sound absorption If the manufacturer is required to make a declaration of the sound absorption performance (i.e. if the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel is subject to regulations) the value for the practical sound absorption coefficient p shall be declared according to EN ISO 11654. 4.10 Thermal resistance When declared, the thermal resistance R of thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be obtained from either a measured value or a calculated value, expressed in (m2·K)/W. The measured value of the thermal resistance R shall be determined according to 5.9. The calculated value of thermal resistance R shall be based on the thermal conductivity (i) value of each layer from which the panel is made of, taken from EN ISO 10456. The thermal resistance R of the thermoplastics rigid protective wallcovering panel shall be calculated by using the following formula: ==∑1niiitR where R is the thermal resistance in square metre kelvin per watt [(m2·K)/W)]; ti is the thickness of layer i in metres (m); i is the thermal conductivity of layer i in watt per metre kelvin [(W/(m·K)]; n is the total number of layers. 5 Testing, assessment and sampling methods 5.1 Reaction to fire The product shall be tested in accordance with the test method(s) given in EN 13501-1, for the referred class of the reaction to fire performance. oSIST prEN 17104:2017
