Ta dokument se uporablja za radijsko opremo za digitalno povezavo tla-zrak (VDL), 2. način, digitalnih komunikacij, ki uporabljajo diferencialno osemfazno premično šifriranje (D8PSK), namenjeno za kanalne priraste 25 kHz. Sistem VDL, 2. način, omogoča izmenjavo podatkovne komunikacije med letalskimi plovili in talnimi sistemi. Področje uporabe tega dokumenta je omejeno na zemeljske postaje.
Ta dokument določa funkcionalne specifikacije za talno radijsko opremo, namenjeno uporabi za podatkovne komunikacije tla-zrak. Ta dokument izhaja iz naslednjih dokumentov:
• Priloga 10 h Konvenciji o mednarodnem civilnem letalstvu organizacije ICAO[1];
• ED 92B [i.2]: »MOPS za VDL, 2. način, letalski oddajnik-sprejemnik, ki deluje v frekvenčnem razponu
118-136.975 MHz« (2012), ki določa letalski oddajnik-sprejemnik.
Ta dokument sestavljata dva dela:
• prvi del zagotavlja funkcionalne specifikacije in preskusne postopke za fizično plast in podplast MAC;
• drugi del zagotavlja funkcionalne specifikacije in preskusne postopke za plasti za povezavo in podomrežni dostop.
