Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards institutes (IS0 member bodies). The work of developing Inter-
national Standards is carried out through IS0 technical committees. Every member
body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the
right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental
and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to
the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by
the IS0 Council.
International Standard IS0 965/2 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 1,
Screw threads, and was circulated to the member bodies in January 1979.
It has been approved by the member bodies of the following countries :
Australia Hungary Poland
Austria Romania
India
Belgium Ireland South Africa, Rep. of
Bulgaria Italy Spain
Sweden
Canada Japan
Chile Korea, Rep. of Switzerland
Czechoslovakia Libyan Arab Jamahiriya United Kingdom
Denmark Mexico USA
Finland Netherlands USSR
France New Zealand
Germany, F. R. Norway
No member body expressed disapproval of the document.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (i.e. IS0 965/2-1973).

1 Scope and field of application Examples :
This International Standard specifies limits of sizes for pitch MI - 6h
and crest diameters for IS0 general purpose metric screw
threads conforming to IS0 262, IS0 general purpose metric MI0 x I,25 - 6g
screw threads - Selected sizes for screws, bolts and nuts.
A fit between threaded parts is indicated by the nut thread
tolerance designation followed by the bolt thread tolerance
The limits of sizes for the tolerance quality specified are derived
from the fundamental deviations and tolerances specified in designation separated by a stroke.
IS0 965/I.
Examples :
2 Designation MI - 5H/6h
Tolerance designation for nut threads is Ml0 x I,25 - 6H/6g

For coated threads, the tolerances apply to the parts before
coating, unless otherwise stated. After coating, the actual

thread profile shall not in any point transgress the maximum
material limits for position H or h respectively.
Tolerance designation for bolt threads is
