Technical Report ISO/TR 7423 was drawn up by technical committee ISO/TC 52, Light metal containers. The works of standardiza-
tion on this subject was begun in 1977 and was put into the hands of the Ad-hoc group.
During its 8th meeting, held in Pretoria in June 1980, ISO/TC 52/SC 3 approved this draft proposal and asked that it be published as
a technical report.
From the beginning of the works of standardization on sections of non-round cans, the committee members of the ISO/TC 52 /SC 3
asked that the obtained results be published not as an International Standard but as a Technical report.
The decision to publish the document as a technical report was justified by the following reasons :
-
the quantities produced and the international exchange of non-round cans are less important than for round cans;
- thus the investment which would be represented for every country would be too expensive to produce an international stan-
dard on sections for non-round cans, taking into account of the production;
-
however, it has seemed preferable for the committee members to recommend some sections. This list of sections should be a
auide for countries which intend to manufacture or fill non-round cans with fish or fishery products.
1 Scope and field of application
This Technical Report gives a recommended range of sections for non-round cans for fish and other fishery products. These sections
are related to the capacities.
All can measurements are given in accordance with the requirements of IS0 90.
NOTE - The sections are given only for rectangular cans, oval and obround cans.

demandé que les résultats ne fassent pas l'objet d'une Norme internationale mais d'un rapport technique.
La décision de publier le document en tant que rapport technique a été motivée par les raisons suivantes :

les quantités produites et les échanges internationaux de boîtes non rondes sont nettement moins importants que ceux
concernant les boîtes rondes;
-
il s'ensuit que les investissements que représenteraient, pour chaque pays, le strict respect d'une Norme internationale sur les
sections des boîtes non rondes sont trop lourds compte tenu de l'importance de la production;
- cependant, il a paru souhaitable aux membres de I'ISO/TC 52 de recommander certaines sections, la liste de ces sections per-

mettant de guider d'éventuels investissements pour les pays désirant fabriquer et utiliser les boîtes de forme non ronde pour les
conserves de poissons et de produits de la pêche.
1 Objet et domaine d'application
Le présent Rapport technique préconise une gamme recommandée de sections pour les boîtes de forme non ronde à conserves ali-
mentaires, destinées aux conserves de poissons et autres produits de la pêche. Ces sections sont associées à des capacités.
Toutes les mesures des boîtes sont indiquées conformément aux prescriptions de I'ISO 90.
