ASTM A812/A812M-96
(Specification)Standard Specification for Steel, High-Strength, Low-Alloy, Hot-Rolled, for Welded Layered Pressure Vessels (Withdrawn 1997)
Standard Specification for Steel, High-Strength, Low-Alloy, Hot-Rolled, for Welded Layered Pressure Vessels (Withdrawn 1997)
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers hot-rolled, high-strength, low-alloy steel sheet intended primarily for use in coil form in the construction of welded layered pressure vessels.
1.2 The following grades are included in this specification: Mechanical Requirements Yield Strength, min Tensile Strength, min Grade ksi MPa ksi MPa 65 65 450 85 585 80 80 550 100 690
1.3 This material is produced in coil form. However, testing is to represent the back end and the middle of the slab as rolled-see 6.1.4. The purchaser should therefore recognize this requires cutting the as-rolled coil to obtain test samples and results in half-size coils.
1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI (metric) units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents, therefore each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values of the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.

This standard is issued under the fixed designation A 8 12/A 8 I2M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the
year of original adoption or. in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last
reapproval. A superscript epsilon (t) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.
