Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components - Basic test and measurement procedures - Part 3-28: Examinations and measurements - Transient loss

Describes methods to measure fast variation of attenuation due to mechanical stresses. Transient loss measurement shows the effect of fast mechanical disturbances on fibres, such as, dropping, vibration, or manipulation. The duration is generally longer than several tens of milliseconds. This method is not designed to measure very fast transient losses, with duration less than 1 ms.

Décrit les méthodes de mesure de la variation rapide de l'affaiblissement causée par les contraintes mécaniques. La mesure de la perte transitoire montre l'effet des perturbations mécaniques reapides sur les fibres, tel que les chutes, les vibrations, et la manipulation. La durée est généralement supérieure à quelques dizaines de millisecondes. Cette méthode n'est pas conçue pour mesurer les pertes tranistoires très rapides, d'une durée inférieure è 1 ms.

The text of document 86B/1610/FDIS, future edition 1 of IEC 61300-3-28, prepared by SC 86B, Fibre
optic interconnecting devices and passive components, of IEC TC 86, Fibre optics, was submitted to
the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 61300-3-28 on 2002-03-01.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2002-12-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2005-03-01
Annexes designated "normative" are part of the body of the standard.
In this standard, annex ZA is normative.
