1) La CEI (Commission Electrotechnique Internationale) est une organisation mondiale de normalisation composée
de l'ensemble des comités électrotechniques nationaux (Comités nationaux de la CEI). La CEI a pour objet de
favoriser la coopération internationale pour toutes les questions de normalisation dans les domaines de

FOREWORD
1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation is
entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may
participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization
for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two
organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an
international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation
from all interested National Committees.

group functions (1984).

convert that publication into the IEC standard: Particular requirements for bell and chime

transformers.
When a particular subclause of part 1 is not mentioned in this part 2, that subclause applies as

far as is reasonable. Where this standard states "addition", "modification" or "replacement", the

relevant text of part 1 is to be adapted accordingly.

This standard replaces section 3 of chapter III of IEC 60742.

1 Domaine d’application

La présente norme internatinale traite de tous les aspects de la sécurité tels qu'électrique,
thermique et mécanique.
Cette partie 2-8 de la CEI 61558 est applicable aux transformateurs de sécurité pour
sonneries associés ou indépendants installés à poste fixe, monophasés, à refroidissement
par air (circulation naturelle ou forcée), ayant une tension primaire assignée n'excédant pas
250 V courant alternatif, une fréquence assignée n'excédant pas 500 Hz, une puissance
assignée n'excédant pas 100 VA.
La tension secondaire à vide ne doit pas dépasser 33 V courant alternatif ou 46 V courant
continu lissé et la tension secondaire assignée ne doit pas dépasser 24 V courant alternatif
ou 33 V courant continu lissé.
Les transformateurs pour sonneries sont généralement destinés à alimenter des
avertisseurs sonores domestiques et autres dispositifs similaires quand la charge est
appliquée pendant des périodes de courte durée.
NOTE 1 – Une charge partielle peut être appliquée à des fins d’indication lumineuse.
Cette norme est applicable aux transformateurs de sécurité spéciaux (transformateurs

1 Scope
Replacement:
This international standard deals with all aspects of safety such as electrical, thermal and
mechanical.
This part 2-8 of IEC 61558 applies to fixed, single-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced),
indépendant or associated safety isolating transformers for bell and chimes, having a
rated supply voltage not exceeding 250 V a.c., a rated frequency not exceeding 500 Hz, a
rated output not exceeding 100 VA.
The no-load output voltage shall not exceed 33 V a.c. or 46 V ripple free d.c. and the rated
output voltage shall not exceed 24 V a.c. or 33 V ripple free d.c.
Bell and chime transformers are generally intended to supply domestic sound signalling
equipment and other similar devices where the load is applied for short periods of time.
NOTE 1 – A partial load may be applied for illumination purposes.
This standard applies to special safety isolating transformers (transformer for bell and
chime) which are used where double or reinforced insulation between circuits is required by
the installation rules or by the appliance specification.
This standard is applicable to dry-type transformers. The windings may be encapsulated or
non-encapsulated.
NOTE 2 – Attention is drawn to the fact that for transformers intended to be used in tropical countries special
requirements may be necessary.
This standard also applies to transformers incorporating electronic circuits. This standard does
not apply to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input and

output terminals or socket-outlets of the transformer.
