Touring ski-boots for adults — Interface with touring ski-bindings — Requirements and test methods
This document specifies the dimensions and characteristics of the interface, requirements, test methods, and marking of ski-boots with a rigid sole (see 3.5) which are used with current systems of touring ski-bindings with attachment at the boot toe and boot heel, the proper release function of which depends on the dimensions and design of the interfaces. For ski-binding systems that function irrespective of the sole shape or that have different requirements for the sole dimensions, it is not always necessary for the ski-boot soles to comply with this document in order to achieve the desired degree of safety. This document is applicable to ski-boots of sizes 15,0 and larger in the Mondopoint system (see Annex A). It is applicable to rigid touring boots. Boots with softer shells like Telemark boots are excluded as they do not have the necessary shell stability to act as part of the release systems.

1 Scope
This document specifies the dimensions and characteristics of the interface, requirements, test methods
and marking of ski-boots with a rigid ski boot sole that are used with current systems of touring ski-

This document is not necessarily applicable to touring ski boots that function independent of the sole

4 Requirements and test methods
4.1 General
If no specific test methods are indicated, check the characteristics as appropriate (e.g. by measurement).
If not otherwise indicated, execute the testing under standard atmosphere 23/50, in accordance with
ISO 554, with ordinary tolerances.
4.2 Dimensions
The dimensions of the boot toe and heel shall correspond to Figure 1.
Fundamentally, all dimensions shall be within the indicated tolerance. However, relevance to safety

varies in importance depending on the indicated dimensions.

4.3 Design
4.3.1 Sole length
The sole lengths of the two ski-boots in a pair shall not differ by more than 2 mm.
4.3.2 Boot sole interface
The sole dimensions in the toe and heel boot binding interface areas shall be symmetrical about the
median plane within an admissible deviation of 1 mm.
If the side walls of the sole are built in two parts, it shall be ensured that no part of the lower area of the
sole protrudes beyond the upper profile.
The design of the toe and heel boot binding interface areas shall not negatively influence the function of
the binding.
4.3.3 Side walls at boot toe
The side walls of the sole at the boot toe up to a distance of at least 25 mm from the toe end shall be
perpendicular to the bearing surface within an admissible inward-outward deviation as shown in
Figure 1, section C-C.
Cut outs with an outside diameter of not more than 5,5 mm with a centre in 14 mm ± 1 mm from the tip
and 6,5 mm ± 1,5 mm from the top surface are allowed (see Figure 2).
Around the hole, material different from the shell material may be used.

4.3.4 Side walls at boot heel
The lateral side walls of the sole at the boot heel up to a distance of at least 70 mm from the heel end shall
be perpendicular to the bearing surface or tapered inwards-outwards between 0° and 10° up to a height
of 14 mm.
If lateral grooves of more than 2 mm depth are present at the heel (see Figure 3), supports conforming
with Figure 4 shall remain.
Other configurations of grooves may be used if they are within the given dimensions in Figure 3, Figure 4
and Figure 5.

Touring ski-boots for adults — Interface with touring ski-
bindings — Requirements and test methods
1 Scope
This document specifies the dimensions and characteristics of the interface, requirements, test methods
and marking of ski-boots with a rigid ski boot sole that are used with current systems of touring ski-
bindings with attachment at the boot toe and boot heel, the proper release function of which depends
on the dimensions and design of the interfaces.
This document is not necessarily applicable to touring ski boots that function independent of the sole
shape with certain ski-binding systems.
This document is applicable to ski-boots of sizes 15,0 to 32,0 in the Mondopoint system (see Annex A).
It is applicable to rigid touring boots. Boots with softer shells such as Telemark boots are excluded as
they do not have the necessary shell stability to act as part of the release systems.

4 Requirements and test methods
4.1 General
If no specific test methods are indicated, check the characteristics as appropriate (e.g. by measurement).
If not otherwise indicated, execute the testing under standard atmosphere 23/50, in accordance with
ISO 554, with ordinary tolerances.
4.2 Dimensions
The dimensions of the boot toe and heel shall correspond to Figure 1.
Fundamentally, all dimensions shall be within the indicated tolerance. However, relevance to safety
varies in importance depending on the indicated dimensions.
Looking at several dimensions (see Annex B), deviations may be accepted, provided that the following
specifications are respected:
a) deviations remain exceptional;
b) deviations are small;
c) no limitations of function arise with all marketable and critical bindings;
d) tolerance is respected at the next possible chance (e.g. reconstruction of a tool).
The gauge (see Figure 1) shall be wider than the boot sole.

4.3 Design
4.3.1 Sole length
The sole lengths of the two ski-boots in a pair shall not differ by more than 2 mm.
4.3.2 Boot sole interface
The sole dimensions in the toe and heel boot binding interface areas shall be symmetrical about the
median plane within an admissible deviation of 1 mm.
If the side walls of the sole are built in two parts, it shall be ensured that no part of the lower area of the
sole protrudes beyond the upper profile.
The design of the toe and heel boot binding interface areas shall not negatively influence the function of
the binding.
4.3.3 Side walls at boot toe
The side walls of the sole at the boot toe up to a distance of at least 25 mm from the toe end shall
be perpendicular to the bearing surface within an admissible inwardoutward deviation as shown in
Figure 1, section CC.
Cut outs with an outside diameter of not more than 5,5 mm with a centre in 14 mm ± 1 mm from the tip
and 6,5 mm ± 1,5 mm from the top surface are allowed (see Figure 2).

1 Domaine d’application
Le présent document spécifie les dimensions et les caractéristiques de la zone de contact, ainsi que les
exigences, les méthodes d’essai et le marquage des chaussures de ski à semelle rigide utilisés avec les
systèmes actuels de fixation de ski de randonnée, situés à l’avant et au talon de la chaussure et dont le
bon déclenchement dépend des dimensions et de la forme des zones de contact.
Le présent document ne s’applique pas nécessairement aux chaussures de ski de randonnée dont le
fonctionnement est indépendant de la forme de la semelle avec certains systèmes de fixation.
Le présent document s’applique aux chaussures de ski de pointure 15,0 à 32,0 selon le système
Mondopoint (voir Annexe A).
Il s’applique aux chaussures de ski de randonnée rigides. Il ne concerne pas les chaussures ayant une
coque plus souple telles que les chaussures Telemark, car leur coque n’offre pas la stabilité nécessaire
pour générer une action au sein des systèmes de déclenchement.

4 Exigences et méthodes d’essai
4.1 Généralités
Si aucune méthode d’essai particulière n’est préconisée, contrôler les caractéristiques de manière
appropriée, par exemple par mesurage.
Sauf indication contraire, réaliser l’essai en atmosphère normale 23/50 conformément à l’ISO 554 avec
les tolérances habituelles.
4.2 Dimensions
Les dimensions de l’avant et du talon de la chaussure doivent correspondre à la Figure 1.
Fondamentalement, toutes les dimensions doivent respecter les limites de tolérance indiquées.
Cependant, la pertinence en matière de sécurité varie selon les dimensions indiquées.
Pour certaines dimensions (voir l’Annexe B), des écarts peuvent être acceptés, sous réserve que les
spécifications suivantes soient respectées:
a) les écarts doivent rester exceptionnels;

b) les écarts sont faibles;
c) aucune restriction fonctionnelle ne doit être constatée avec les fixations du marché et les fixations
critiques;
d) les tolérances sont respectées dès que l’occasion se présente (par exemple lors d’une réfection
d’outil).

4.3 Conception
4.3.1 Longueur de la semelle
Les longueurs de semelle d’une paire de chaussures de ski ne doivent pas varier de plus de 2 mm
entre elles.
4.3.2 Zones de contact de la semelle de la chaussure
Les dimensions de la semelle dans les zones de contact à l’avant et au talon doivent être symétriques
par rapport au plan médian, avec un écart admissible de 1 mm.
Si les chants de la semelle sont en deux parties, il faut s’assurer qu’aucune zone de la partie basse de la
semelle ne fait saillie au-delà du profil de la partie supérieure.
La forme des zones de contact avant et arrière ne doit pas nuire à la fonction de la fixation.
4.3.3 Chants à l’avant de la chaussure
Les chants de la semelle à l’avant, sur une distance d’au moins 25 mm par rapport à l’extrémité avant,
doivent être perpendiculaires à la surface d’appui, avec un écart admissible comme indiqué à la Figure 1,
coupe C-C.
Les découpes présentant un diamètre extérieur maximal de 5,5 mm dont le centre est situé à
14 mm ± 1 mm de l’extrémité avant et à 6,5 mm ± 1,5 mm de la surface supérieure sont autorisées (voir
la Figure 2).
Autour du trou, un matériau différent de celui de la coque peut être utilisé.
