BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 163, Magnetic Striping of I6 mm Film Pevforated Along
Both Edges, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 36, Cinematography, the
Secretariat of which is held by the American Standards Association, Inc. (ASA).
During its second meeting, held in Stockholm, in June 1955, the Technical Committee
assigned to its Secretariat the study of a draft proposal for an IS0 Recommendation drawn
up as recommended by the Working Group No. 4, Dimensions and Location for Sound
Records, on the basis of the American Standard PH.22.101 (Magnetic coating of 16 mm film
perforated along both edges).
In October 1955, this draft proposal for an IS0 Recommendation was submitted to
the members of the Technical Committee ISO/TC 36

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 163, Pistes Magnetiques surfilm de 16 mm à deux rangkes
de perforation, a 6t6 élaborde par le Comitt Technique ISO/TC 36, Cinkmatographie, dont
le SecrCtariat est assure par I’American Standards Association, Inc. (ASA).
Au cours de sa seconde rCunion, tenue à Stockholm, en juin 1955, le Comite Technique
confia à son Secr6tariat 1’6tude d’un avant-projet de Recommandation ISO, Ctabli sur la
proposition du Groupe de Travail NO 4, Dimensions et emplacements des traces acoustiques,
sur les bases de la norme amdricaine PH.22.101 (Enduit magnetique sur film de 16 mm à
deux rangdes de perforation).
En octobre 1955, cet avant-projet de Recommandation IS0 fut soumis aux membres
du Comit6 Technique d’ISO/TC 36 et adopt6 comme Projet de Recommandation ISO.
