BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 954, Simple bend test for light metal and light metal alloy sheet and strip of
thickness between 0.2 mm (0.008 in) and 7 mm (0.25 in), was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 79,
Light metals and their alloys, the Secretariat of which is held by the Association Française de Normalisation
(AFNOR).
Work on this question led, in 1966, to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
in March 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1134) was circulated to all the IS0 Member Bodies
for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the following Member
Bodies :

1. SCOPE
This 1SO Recommendation relates to the application of the simple bend test to light metal and light metal alloy
sheet and strip of thickness between 0.2 mm (0.008 in) and 7 mm (0.25 in). It does not apply to rods, bars, or
extruded sections.
2. PRINCIPLE OF TEST
2.1 A rectangular test piece, cut from the sheet or strip, is subjected to plastic deformation by bending. The
direction of bending is not reversed during the test.
2.2 The bending is continued until one leg of the test piece makes, under load, a specified angle with the
extension of the other (see Fig. 2). The axes of the two legs of the test piece remain in a place perpendicular
to the axis of bending. In the case of a 180" bend the two legs may, depending on the requirements of the

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISOlR 954, Essai de pliage simple pour les tôles et bandes en métaux légers et en
leurs alliages d’épaisseur comprise entre 0,2 mm (0,008 in) et 7 mm (0,25 in), a été élaborée par le Comité
Technique ISO/TC 79, Métaux légers et leurs alliages, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association Française
de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent, en 1966, à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En mars 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1134) fut soumis a l’enquête de tous les Comités
Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les
Comités Membres suivants :

1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 concerne l’essai de pliage simple appliqué aux tôles et bandes en métaux
légers et en leurs alliages d’épaisseur comprise entre 0,2 mm (0,008 in) et 7 mm (0,25 in). Elle ne s’applique ni
aux barres ni aux profilés filés.
2. PRINCIPE DE L’ESSAI
