BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1404, Industrial air hose, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 45,
Rubber, the Secretariat of which is held by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1404, which was circulated
to all the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in December 1967. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of

INDUSTRIAL AIR HOSE
INTRODUCTION
This IS0 Recommendat-Jn has been prepared to provide minimum acceptable requirements for the satisfactory
performance of rubber industrial air hose.
The list of nominal bores given in Table 1 (based on the R 10 series of preferred numbers) is not intended to be
restrictive and will not preclude the manufacture of sizes outside this list which may be the subject of individual
national standards.
1. SCOPE
This IS0 RecommenL-tion specifies the requirements of industrial air hose suitable for a maximum design
working pressure of 1.0 MN/m2 and a test pressure of 2.5 MN/m2.
NOTE. - Since hoses for heavy duty pneumatic services such as mining, rock drilling, etc., wiU have more exacting material and
test requirements, these are the subject of a separate specification.
2. MATERIALS
The hose should be made with a rubber lining resistant to oil mist, with a reinforcement of natural or synthetic
fibres and a rubber cover.
3. CONSTRUCTION
3.1 The lining and cover should be of uniform thickness, be reasonably concentric, free from air holes, porosity
and other defects and should be of the thickness specified.
3.2 The lining should also be as smooth in the bore as is consistent with good manufacturing practice.
3.3 The cover of the mandrel built type hose should have a cloth marked finish and the whole should be conso.
lidated by wrapping.
3.4 The hose should be uniformly vulcanized.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 1404, Tuyaux à air en caoutchouc à usage industriel, a été élaborée par le
Comité Technique ISO/TC 45, Caoutchouc, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par la British Standards Institution (BSI).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption du Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 1404 qui
fut soumis, en décembre 1967, à l’enquête de tous les Comités Membres de WO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de
quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

TUYAUX À AIR EN CAOUTCHOUC À USAGE INDUSTRIEL
INTRODUCTION
La présente Recommandation IS0 a été établie pour fixer les spécifications minimales acceptables, en vue de réaliser
des tuyaux à air en caoutchouc à usage industriel qui soient satisfaisants.
La liste des diamètres nominaux donnée dans le Tableau 1 (basée sur la série R 10 des nombres normaux) n’est pas
restrictive, et n’exclut pas la fabrication de tuyaux de dimensions différentes de celles y figurant, qui peuvent faire
l’objet de normes nationales individuelles.
1. OBJET
Cette Recommandation IS0 fixe les spécifications des tuyaux pour air à usage industriel, pouvant subir une
pression de service maximale de 1,0 MN/m2 et une pression d‘épreuve de 2,5 MN/m2.
NOTE. - Etant donné que les tuyaux pour pneumatiques, service lourd, comme les tuyaux pour mines, pour forage de roches, etc.,
nécessitent des spécifications et des matériaux de fabrication plus précis, ils font l’objet d’une norme séparée.
2. MATERIAUX
Le tuyau doit être constitué par un tube en caoutchouc, un renfort en fibres naturelles ou synthétiques et un
revêtement en caoutchouc.
3. CONSTRUCTmN
Le tube et le revêtement doivent avoir une épaisseur constante, être bien concentriques ne pas renfermer de

bulles d’air, ne pas être poreux ou posséder d’autres défauts, et doivent avoir l’épaisseur spécifiée.
Le tube doit être lisse du côté constituant l’orifice et doit être fabriqué avec soin.

3.3 L‘extrémité du revêtement du tuyau fabriqué sur mandrin doit être en tissu et le tube doit être consolidé
par un entoilage.
3.4 Le tuyau doit être vulcanisé d’une façon uniforme.
