SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 is the Slovenian version of ETSI ETR 210 Edition 1, ASN.1 library index; Version 1.1.1. It is an ETSI Technical Report that indexes the ASN.1 library used in telecommunications standards, showing which documents import each library element and which documents redefine them. For standards writers, protocol engineers, and maintainers of ASN.1-based specifications, it is a traceability document for shared definitions.

What does SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 specify?

SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 specifies an index for the ASN.1 Library defined in ETS 300 655. Its purpose is to list library elements, list the documents that use them, and list the documents that redefine them.

The report is organized into a foreword, Scope, References, Definitions and abbreviations, the ASN.1 library index, Annex A Bibliography, and history. Clause 4 is the core section: it presents the index in a table.

What are the key requirements of SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005?

  • Clause 1 sets the main objective: build a library index for the ASN.1 Library and keep it updated in each new version. In practice, this means the report is meant to track how the library is actually used over time.
  • Clause 1 also states the three things the index must list: all library elements, all users of library elements, and all definers of library elements that are non-users. This lets a maintainer see both reuse and local redefinition.
  • Clause 2 anchors the report in ETS 300 655 and ITU-T Recommendation X.680. In practice, any indexed ASN.1 definition is expected to sit on top of the library definition and the ASN.1 notation rules.
  • Clause 2 separates documents that import library elements from documents that re-define them. This matters because an imported definition and a redefined definition have different maintenance impacts.
  • Clause 3.1 says an ASN.1 definition is a type or value definition that has been checked by an ASN.1 tool and must conform to X.680. In practice, the index is meant to cover checked, conformant definitions rather than informal examples.
  • Clause 3.1 defines ETSI-LIB as the current ETS containing the ASN.1 library and LIB-INDEX as the current ETR containing the index. This gives the two documents a paired role: one defines the library, the other tracks its use.
  • Clause 4 uses Table 1 to record each library element together with users, definers, and notes. The notes explain that some elements are invisible substructures because they are not exported, and that for redefined elements the total number of using standards may be unknown.

What terms does SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 define?

  • ASN.1 definition - an ASN.1 type or value definition that has been checked by an ASN.1 tool and conforms to ITU-T Recommendation X.680.
  • common application element - an ASN.1 type or value definition that can be used commonly in other ASN.1 modules.
  • ETSI-LIB - the most recent ETS that contains the current version of the ASN.1 library, identified here as ETS 300 655.
  • LIB-INDEX - the most recent ETR that contains the current version of the index to the ASN.1 library, identified here as this report.
  • ASN.1 - Abstract Syntax Notation One.

Who uses SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005?

SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 is used by people who maintain ASN.1-based telecommunications specifications. That includes ETSI working groups, protocol designers, and engineers who need to know which standards import or redefine shared ASN.1 elements.

It is especially relevant in signalling and switching work, because the indexed documents include ISDN supplementary services, GSM mobile specifications, and ETSI object identifier tree documents. In practice, users consult it for dependency tracking, impact analysis, and library maintenance.

Which standards are used with SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005?

  • ETS 300 655 - defines the ASN.1 Library that this report indexes.
  • ITU-T Recommendation X.680 - defines the ASN.1 basic notation that indexed definitions must follow.
  • TCR-TR 046 - provides the rules and procedures used to build the index.
  • TCR-TR 019 - an informative reference on ASN.1 tools used as syntax and semantics checkers.
  • ETR 090, ETR 091, ETS 300 196-1, ETS 300 599, ETS 300 622 - these are the standards named in the index as users or definers of specific library elements.

What does the SIST-TP ETSI/ETR 210 E1:2005 document contain?

The document contains one main index table, Table 1, which lists library elements together with users, definers, and notes. The entries cover items such as Address, PartyNumber, SS-Code, and related ASN.1 structures, so the table functions as a cross-reference for shared telecom definitions.

It also contains the foreword that explains why ETSI uses Technical Reports for informative material, plus the formal scope, reference list, and definitions. Annex A adds the bibliography and identifies the procedure document used to create the index.

Foreword
This ETSI Technical Report (ETR) has been produced by the Signalling Protocols and Switching (SPS)
Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
ETRs are informative documents resulting from ETSI studies which are not appropriate for European
Telecommunication Standard (ETS) or Interim European Telecommunication Standard (I-ETS) status. An
ETR may be used to publish material which is either of an informative nature, relating to the use or the
application of ETSs or I-ETSs, or which is immature and not yet suitable for formal adoption as an ETS or
an I-ETS.
This ETS was generated using a template provided by TCR-TR 046. The procedures defined there were
used to identify the common application elements included in the library index, ensuring that its rules apply
to the contents of this ETR.
NOTE: TCR-TR 046 is only available to ETSI members.

1 Scope
The main objective of this ETR is to establish a library index for the ASN.1 Library, a library containing
ASN.1 definitions as defined in ETS 300 655 [1].
Every new version of this ETR will contain an updated list of users importing type references and/or value
references from a specified version of the library.
The purpose of the library index is:
- list all library elements;
- list all users of library elements;
- list all definers of library elements (non-users).
2 References
This ETR incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These
references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications listed hereafter. For dated
references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this ETR only
when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest edition of the
publication referred to applies.
