SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 is the Slovenian version of the ETSI technical specification for TIPHON Release 3, Part 3. It specifies an Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and a partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) proforma for H.225.0 conformance testing of Terminal, Gatekeeper and Gateway implementations. In practice, it tells test laboratories and implementers how H.225.0 behavior is to be tested and what implementation details must be supplied before testing.

What does SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 specify?

SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 specifies the ATS and partial PIXIT proforma for the H.225.0 protocol used by Terminal, Gatekeeper and Gateway equipment. It is aimed at conformance testing, so the document is about checking protocol behavior rather than defining the protocol itself.

The scope says the objective is to provide conformance tests that improve the probability of interoperability. It covers procedures described in ITU-T Recommendation H.323 and ITU-T Recommendation H.225.0, and it bases the test methodology on ISO/IEC 9646-1, -2 and -3.

The document is organized as follows:

What are the key requirements of SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004?

SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 sets out how the ATS is applied, how test reports are structured, and what information must be provided before execution of conformance tests. The practical focus is on making sure the tester, laboratory and equipment under test use the same assumptions and the same test control data.

Test method and ATS structure

Clause 4 applies the remote test method. The figure in that clause shows the tester interacting with the IUT through the service provider layers, with a Point of Control and Observation (PCO) above the transport layer. In practice, this means the tests observe protocol behavior across the network interface rather than inside the implementation.

Clause 5 states that the TTCN version used is the one defined in ETSI TR 101 666. For users of the ATS, this fixes the notation used for the test suite.

Clause 6 says the test purpose identifiers are reused as test case names, giving a one-to-one ATS to TP map. This makes it easier to trace each executable test back to its intended behavior.

PCTR and PIXIT conformance

Clause 7 requires a test laboratory that produces a Protocol Conformance Test Report (PCTR) to follow the ISO/IEC 9646-5 template, and to use the Annex A proforma when reporting tests for the ATS in Annex C. In practice, the report has to preserve the annex structure so results are comparable.

Clause 8 requires an augmented partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT) proforma for the ATS in Annex C, and says it must be technically equivalent to Annex B. The PIXIT collects the implementation details that the lab needs before running tests, such as ports, addresses, timers and configuration choices.

ATS conformance and realization

Clause 9 requires the test realizer to comply with ISO/IEC 9646-4 when producing the Means Of Testing (MOT) and Executable Test Suite (ETS). The ETS must be technically equivalent to the ATS in Annex C, and every abstract test event sequence must be realizable in executable form. That matters because a test suite is only useful if the lab can actually run it.

The same clause also says a laboratory offering conformance test services with this ATS must comply with ISO/IEC 9646-5, and it must use an MOT that conforms to the ATS. This ties the written test suite to the way it is deployed in a real lab.

What the annex proformas ask for

Annex A structures the PCTR around identification, IUT status, static and dynamic conformance summaries, the test campaign report and observations. Annex B structures the PIXIT around the test laboratory, the client, the system under test, and detailed protocol information.

Annex B is especially practical for H.225.0 testing because it asks for:

  • IP ports and addresses for tester and IUT
  • gatekeeper identifiers, transport addresses and endpoint identifiers
  • bandwidth-related values
  • RAS timers
  • configuration details for RAS and basic call control testing
  • H.323/H.225.0 message and information element values

That means the implementation provider must prepare the exact network and signaling parameters needed for repeatable testing.

What terms does SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 define?

  • ATS (Abstract Test Suite) - The abstract set of test cases and test behavior used as the basis for conformance testing.
  • PIXIT (Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing) - The implementation-specific information that the test laboratory needs to set up and run the tests.
  • PCTR (Protocol Conformance Test Report) - The report form used to record the results and status of conformance testing.
  • IUT (Implementation Under Test) - The protocol implementation being assessed.
  • SUT (System Under Test) - The system or equipment configuration being tested, including the relevant implementation and environment.
  • RAS (Registration, Admission and Status) - The H.225.0 signaling area covering discovery, registration, admission, status and related procedures.
  • BCC (Basic Call Control) - The signaling protocol associated with DSS1 / ISDN basic call control procedures.
  • TTCN (Testing and Test Control Notation) - The formal notation used to write the abstract test suite.

Who uses SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004?

SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 is used by test laboratories, test realizers, equipment vendors and their customers in H.323 / TIPHON-related telecommunications testing. The document is written for people who need to prepare, execute or evaluate H.225.0 conformance testing.

Typical users include:

  • test laboratories producing PCTR documents and running conformance campaigns
  • test realizers building the MOT and ETS from the ATS
  • vendors of Terminal, Gatekeeper and Gateway equipment
  • clients of test laboratories who provide PIXIT data and receive reports
  • quality managers and buyers who need evidence that an implementation has been assessed against the specified test suite

Which standards are used with SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004?

SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 is used together with the following referenced standards and documents:

  • ETSI TS 101 804-1 - provides the PICS proforma for H.225.0 Terminal, Gatekeeper and Gateway implementations.
  • ETSI TS 101 804-2 - provides the Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes that the ATS in this part realizes.
  • ITU-T Recommendation H.323 - provides the framework and wire protocol context for multiplexed call signaling transport.
  • ITU-T Recommendation H.225.0 - provides the protocol under test: call signaling and media stream packetization for packet-based multimedia communication systems.
  • ITU-T Recommendation Q.931 - supports the basic call control procedures referenced by BCC.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-1, -2, -3 - provide the conformance testing methodology, ATS specification framework and TTCN notation basis.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-4 - provides requirements for test realization and executable test suites.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-5 - provides requirements for test laboratories and clients in the conformance assessment process.
  • ETSI TR 101 666 - defines the TTCN version used for this ATS.

What does the SIST-TS TS 101 804-3 V1.1.1:2004 document contain?

The document contains the abstract test method, the ATS conventions, the ATS-to-test-purpose mapping, and the conformance rules for PCTR, PIXIT and ATS use. Annex A gives the PCTR proforma, including static and dynamic conformance summaries and the test campaign report structure.

Annex B contains the partial PIXIT proforma with detailed tables for ports, addresses, identifiers, bandwidth values, timers and configuration options for both RAS and basic call control testing. These tables are used to configure the tester and the IUT before the test run.

Annex C contains the ATS in two equivalent forms: TTCN.GR and TTCN.MP. The annex notes that both forms are considered equivalent, which matters for test tooling and exchange of the suite between users.
