This classification system may be used to formulate statistical information within the categories provided and will facilitate the analysis of injury and illness incidents. The classification system may assist owner/operators and manufacturers to review incidents directly related to their amusement rides and devices, and may provide information for alternatives to reduce or eliminate similar occurrences.

Formerly under the jurisdiction of Committee F24 on Amusement Rides and Devices, this guide was withdrawn in April 2011 in accordance with section 10.5.3.1 of the Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees, which requires that standards shall be updated by the end of the eighth year since the last approval date.
