CEN/TC 248/SC 1 - Burning behaviour of textiles, textile products and textile containing products
a) Standardization of terms and definitions relating to burning behaviour; b) Standardization of test methods to assess the different aspects of burning behaviour of textiles, textile products and textile containing products not including the scope of currently existing CEN/Technical Committees; c) Preparation of classification schemes on which burning behaviour performance levels can be based.
Burning behaviour of textiles, textile products and textile containing products
a) Standardization of terms and definitions relating to burning behaviour; b) Standardization of test methods to assess the different aspects of burning behaviour of textiles, textile products and textile containing products not including the scope of currently existing CEN/Technical Committees; c) Preparation of classification schemes on which burning behaviour performance levels can be based.
General Information
This European Standard specifies a procedure to determine the burning behaviour of textiles for apparel - other than protective clothing - before and after cleansing, when tested using the surface ignition test in EN ISO 6941.

ISO 6940:2004 specifies a method for the measurement of ease of ignition of vertically oriented textile fabrics and industrial products in the form of single or multi-component fabrics (coated, quilted, multilayered, sandwich constructions, and similar combinations), when subjected to a small, defined flame. This method assesses the properties of textile fabrics in response to flame contact under controlled conditions.

This standard specifies a test method for the burning behaviour of industrial and technical textiles used for tarpaulins, large tents, marquees, related structures, airducts, etc.
It is not intended to apply to materials used for small camping tents, lining materials nor any other internal features, nor to awnings.
This standard is not suitable for the linings used inside large tents and marquees.
NOTE Information on the reproducibility and repeatability of the method will be introduced later.

This European standard specifies a classification scheme for the burning behaviour of bedding items based on two ignition sources (smouldering cigarette and small open flame).
The classification is applied to single bedding items only and not to complete bed assemblies.

This European Standard specifies a general test method common to all bedding items, for assessment of their ignitability when subjected to a smouldering cigarette. prEN ISO 12952-4 describes a specific test method for bedding items, which can normally be placed on a mattress, for example: - mattress covers; - underlays; - incontinence-sheets and -pads; - sheets; - blankets; - electric blankets; - quilts (duvets) and covers; - pillows (whatever the filling) and bolsters; - pillowcases.
