IEC 62271-107:2019 is available as IEC 62271-107:2019 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 62271-107:2019 applies to three-pole-operated fused circuit-switchers designed with rated voltages above 1 kV up to and including 52 kV for use on three-phase alternating current systems of either 50 Hz or 60 Hz. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2012. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) technical changes introduced by the second edition of IEC 62271-1 are applied, where relevant; b) rated TRV is removed and TRV is now treated as a test parameter), as in IEC 62271-100; c) the term "thermal current" is no longer used; the rated continuous current is linked to the installed fuse-links, and values shall be provided by the manufacturer together with the list of the acceptable fuse-links; for tests purpose, the highest rated continuous current listed is referred, where previously the wording was "rated maximum thermal current", for consistency with IEC 62271-105; d) making and breaking test duties are independent type tests (as some may be omitted if the switching device has been validated as a load-break switch). However, TDIt0 and TDIlow are kept as a sequence as they are linked to the same rated value (It0); e) differentiation has been introduced between requirements expressed for fulfilling the function expected from a fused circuit-switcher, from requirements only relevant when the function is performed by a stand-alone device. The goal is to avoid duplication or conflicts of requirements with a standard dealing with assemblies, when the function is implemented within such an assembly.

This standard gives guidance on writing the technical specification for the procurement of switchgear and controlgear for use in electricity generating stations (power stations). This Guide for procurement is not applicable to equipment for use in the nuclear reactor plant area of nuclear power stations. Other possible applications of such equipment have not been considered in the preparation of this Guide. This Guide covers switchgear and controlgear within installations primarily concerned with the generation of electrical power and, where appropriate, their interconnection with the transmission and/or distribution system. It also includes main connections (busbars) associated with generator circuits and the ancillary plant forming part of switchboards and/or switching circuits. The equipment covered by this Guide is defined by its function rather than design type. Therefore, the guidance to the specification is stated in performance terms rather than being specified by a detailed description of the equipment to be supplied. This Guide indicates to potential purchasers how their specification should be prepared so that: - the equipment type and capacity interfaces correctly with other elements of the systems; - predicted performance is achieved; - ancillary equipment is properly sized; - reliability, availability and safety requirements are achieved; - proper consideration is given to the evaluation process and the quality measures to be applied. This Guide does not determine the type of specification (e.g. detailed, performance, functional) or the extent of supply for any given contract which is normally decided on the basis of the purchaser’s project strategy. It does not cover: - any commercial, contractual or legal issues which are normally in separate parts of an enquiry; - any allocation of responsibilities which are determined by the contract. This Guide does not prescribe the arrangement of the documents in the enquiry.

Applicable to a.c. circuit-breakers designed for indoor or outdoor installation, for operation at frequencies of 50 Hz and 60 Hz on systems having voltages above 1000 V and applied for inductive current switching with or without additional short-circuit current breaking duties. The standard is applicable to circuit-breakers in accordance with EN 62271-100 that are used to switch high-voltage motor currents and shunt reactor currents and also to high-voltage contactors used to switch high-voltage motor currents. Switching unloaded transformers, i.e. breaking transformer magnetizing current, is not considered in this standard. The reasons for this are as follows: a) due to the non-linearity of the transformer core, it is not possible to correctly model the switching of transformer magnetizing current using linear components in a test laboratory. Tests conducted using an available transformer, such as a test transformer, will only be valid for the transformer tested and cannot be representative for other transformers; b) as detailed in the guide for application of EN 62271-100 and EN 60694, the characteristics of this duty are usually less severe than any other inductive current switching duty. It should be noted that such a duty may produce severe overvoltages within the transformer winding(s) depending on the circuit-breaker re ignition behaviour and transformer winding resonance frequencies. Short-line faults, out-of-phase current making and breaking and capacitive current switching are not applicable to circuit-breakers applied to switch shunt reactors or motors. These duties are therefore not included in this standard.

Applies to three-pole units for public and industrial distribution systems which are functional assemblies of switches including switch-disconnectors and current-limiting fuses designed so as to be capable of - breaking, at the rated recovery voltage, any current up to and including the rated short-circuit breaking current, - making, at the rated voltage, circuits to which the rated short-circuit breaking current applies. It does not apply to fuse-circuit-breakers, fuse-contactors, combinations for motor-circuits or to combinations incorporatingsingle capacitor bank switches.

Applies to alternating current disconnectors and earthing switches, designed for indoor and outdoor enclosed and open terminal installations for voltages above 1 000 V and for service frequencies up to and including 60 Hz. It also applies to the operating devices of these disconnectors and earthing switches and their auxiliary equipment. Additional requirements for disconnectors and earthing switches in enclosed switchgear and controlgear are given in EN 60298, EN 60466 and EN 60517. Note: Disconnectors in which the fuse forms an integral part are not covered by this standard This first edition cancels and replaces Ed.3 of EN 60129 published in 1984, amendment 1 (1992) and amendment 2 (1996). In addition, it replaces EN 61128, EN 61129 and EN 61259, which are hereby withdrawn and cancelled.

Applies to a.c. circuit-breakers designed for indoor or outdoor installation and operation at frequencies up to and including 60 Hz on systems having voltages above 1 000 V. Applies only to three-pole circuit-breakers for use in three-phase systems and single-pole circuit-breakers for use in single-phase systems. Two-pole circuit-breakers for use in single-phase systems are subject to agreement between manufacturer and user. Also applies to the operating devices of circuit-breakers and their auxiliary equipment. However, circuit-breakers with a closing mechanism for dependent manual operation are not covered since a rated short-circuit-making current cannot be specified, and dependent manual operation may be objectionable because of safety considerations. Does not cover circuit-breakers intended for use on motive power units of electrical traction equipment, or circuit-breakers for use with overhead lines which include series capacitors.

Applies to a.c. circuit-breakers within the scope of HD 348 S4 (Clause 1). It provides the general rules for testing a.c. circuit-breakers, for making and breaking capacities over the range of test-duties described in Subclauses 6.102 to 6.111 of IEC 60056, by synthetic methods. The purpose of this standard is to establish criteria for synthetic testing and for the proper evaluation of results. Such criteria will establish the validity of the test method without imposing restraints on innovation of test circuitry.
