ISO/TC 38/WG 27 - Fabric properties relating to moisture

This document specifies the test method for determining the amount of heat transferred through clothing fabrics by the combined dry and evaporative heat emission under simulated and specified conditions. This test method can be used for fabrics, films, coatings, foams and leathers including multilayer assemblies used in hot environment or in activities. The application of this measurement technique is restricted to a maximum amount of total heat transfer which depend on the dimensions and construction of the apparatus used (e.g. about 1 200 W/m2 for the maximum specifications of the equipment according to ISO 11092).

This document describes test methods for determining water absorption time and water absorption capacity of all textile fabrics designed to absorb water. Such fabrics are commonly used in products such as cloths and mops for cleaning tasks. This method is especially applicable to fabrics such as waffle, chamois, bubble looped, checkered, terry looped, and multilayer textile materials.

This document specifies a test method which simulates the microclimate for determining the moisturizing effect of textile materials by measuring water-vapour resistance including air layer and relative humidity using a sweating guarded-hotplate. This test method can be applied to fabrics, films, coatings and leather including multilayer assemblies, for use in clothing system.

ISO 18782:2015 specifies a test method for the determination of hygroscopic heat generated by flowing low then high humidity air on one side of a surface. It is applicable to all kinds of sheet-shaped textile materials.

ISO 17617:2014 specifies a testing method for evaluating the moisture-drying properties of all types of textile fabric. The method is not suitable for determining a drying rate on textiles in other forms such as loose fibre or yarn.

ISO 16533:2014 specifies a method for the measurement of exothermic and endothermic properties by moisture absorption and desorption in sheet-like textiles, e.g. fabrics, knit or nonwovens for clothing, bedding, upholstery, and similar textile products.

ISO 13029:2012 specifies a method for measuring the drying rate of fabric products for sports, leisure use or underwear, that have contact with the skin in their normal use, and other similar fabric products. The method is not applicable to textiles that cannot be permeated by water vapour or for those textiles which are more than 5 mm thick.
