Standard Specification for Rotary Positive Displacement Distillate Fuel Pumps

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the design and construction requirements of rotary positive displacement distillate fuel pumps intended for use in shipboard. Pumps covered by this specification are of Types II, III, IV, V, VIII, X, and XI and of sizes A-H. The pump shall be manufactured capable of sustaining operation in any direction up to a certain inclination, shall withstand environmental vibration induced by shipboard machinery and equipment, shall be driven by an electric motor, and besides distillate fuel, the pump shall also be used to pump aviation turbine fuel. Performance acceptance tests shall be performed, including mechanical running test, noise test, and hydrostatic test, and shall conform to the requirements specified.

1.1 This specification covers the requirements applicable to the design and construction of rotary positive displacement distillate fuel pumps for shipboard use.  
1.2 Lineal dimensions and units of force in this specification are expressed as inches and pounds respectively. A companion metric standard is in the process of preparation.

ABSTRACT
This practice covers methods of testing, rating, and installation of internal combustion engine packages used in hazardous areas in marine applications. The purpose of this practice is to thermally rate engine packages, and provide additional installation recommendations to reduce the risk of igniting ignitable mixtures that may be present near the hazardous areas of marine vessels. In this specification, only a marine engine suitable for the service, designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of 3.2.1, is considered. Thermal rating of the engine is determined by the actual readings of engine and exhausts system temperatures within hazardous areas, as defined by the requirements and references in Practices 2.2 and 2.3 or as designated by the authority.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers the method of testing, rating and installation of internal combustion engine packages for use in hazardous areas in marine applications. The thermal rating of the engine is determined by the actual readings of engine and exhaust system temperatures within hazardous areas, as defined by references in Section 2 of this practice, or as designated by the authority having jurisdiction, or both. The goal of this practice is to thermally rate engine packages, and provide additional installation recommendations, in order to reduce the risk of igniting the ignitable mixtures that may be present within the hazardous areas of marine vessels.  
1.2 Only a marine engine suitable for the service, designed and constructed in conformance with the requirements of 3.1.2, is considered.

Standard Specification for Water Trap for Diesel Exhaust

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the material, dimensions, and construction of a water trap for diesel exhaust. The diesel exhaust water trap system shall consist of a tank and baffles manufactured from a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-columbium alloy, with gaskets made of nonmetallic materials. A minimum of three baffles shall be installed. The traps shall withstand the maximum temperatures specified, be free of paint, and be so designed such as to prevent sea backwash from entering the diesel exhaust system. The trap and piping systems shall prevent dirt accumulation, with the welding being of small, even beading, free of slag and splatter. Pneumatic proof testing of each trap shall be performed with no visible seam leakage and shall conform to the requirements specified.

4.1 Comparison of brake horsepower developed and of specific fuel consumption rates from engine to engine may be made by use of data based upon a standard for composition of an engine assembly.  
4.2 The purchaser of the engine assembly will be fully advised of the minimum scope of assembly which the purchaser may rightfully expect to be encompassed by a response to a request for quotation and to be delivered in response to a purchase order unless the engine builder in the proposal or in the offer to sell has clearly advised otherwise.  
4.3 It will be made apparent to the purchaser that additional auxiliary and accessory equipment will be needed to supplement the defined engine assembly when full consideration is given to the application of the engine assembly as a prime mover in a specific vessel.

1.1 This guide covers performance and minimum scope of assembly of all medium speed marine diesel engines intended for main propulsion of single or multiple screw propelled marine vessels or for vessels using other than screw propeller-type main propulsion.  
1.2 This guide is intended to supplement the regulations of legally constituted regulating authorities. Standard Specification for Insulation Resistance Monitor for Shipboard Electrical Motors and Generators

ABSTRACT
This specification covers monitoring devices (monitors) for the automatic detection and signaling of low insulation resistance values in idle electrical motors or generators, or both. Monitors are intended for permanent installation in both existing or new panels and controller enclosures designed for marine application. These insulation resistance monitors shall be classified in four types: Type I are alternating current generator monitors, Type II are alternating current generator monitors, Type III are direct current motor monitors, and Type IV are direct current generator monitors. The enclosure materials used in the construction of the monitors are to be flame-retardant and the current carrying terminals shall be made of corrosion resistant material. The monitors shall isolate their measuring circuit from the line voltage, while the motor is operating, by the use of an integral isolating relay. In the design of these monitors, environmental factors shall be considered: operating temperature range, sealing, inclination, humidity, and vibration. Also, the monitor relays, voltage characteristics and operating accuracy shall be considered in the design of these monitors. Each monitor shall be subjected to the following: visual and mechanical examination and operational test.
