ABSTRACT
This performance specification covers rainwear and all-purpose water-repellent coat outer fabrics. Fabrics may compose of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers. This standard performance is not applicable for fabrics used for linings and interlinings. Fabrics for this purpose shall be tested and meet the following requirements: breaking strength, resistance to yarn slippage, tearing strength, bursting strength, dimensional change, colorfastness, water repellency, water resistance, fabric appearance, and flammability.
SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers rainwear and all-purpose water-repellent coat outer fabrics composed of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers.
1.2 This performance specification is not applicable to fabrics used for linings and interlinings.
1.3 These requirements apply to the length and width directions for those properties where fabric direction is pertinent.

Standard Guide for Care Symbols for Care Instructions on Textile Products

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This guide provides symbols and a system for their use by which care instructions for textile products can be conveyed in a simple, space-saving, and easily understood pictorial format that is not language dependent. See also ADJD5489-E-PDF. Currently, the FTC Care Labeling Rule recognizes Guide D5489-96c.  
4.2 Care symbols are an important means for identifying the appropriate care procedure for home laundering, commercial laundering, professional textile care, and coin-operated drycleaning, of textile products.  
4.3 Care labeling using symbols can be used by the purchaser to select textiles on the basis of the care method required without knowledge of the language. The FTC Care Labeling Rule specifies Guide D5489-96c symbols. Additional changes in words and symbols have been added to this guide which are not covered by 16 CFR 423. In the United States, when care symbols only are to be included in a care label, the FTC requires that the Guide D5489-96c version of symbols must be used. However, the symbols, as included in this standard version (Guide D5489-18), may be used if symbols are used in addition to full care instructions written in English wording.  
4.4 In countries in which a word-based care labeling system is required, the care symbol system may be used as a supplemental system.  
4.5 The word-based instructions for each symbol in this guide are harmonious with Terminology D123, and Terminology D3136, the United States Federal Trade Commission Care Labeling Rule, 16 CFR 423, and industry practice (see Figs. 1 and 2).

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of importance in seamless knit garments, including camisoles, panties, slips, girdles and swimwear. Different tests shall be conducted in order to determine the following properties of seamless knit garments: bursting strength, colorfastness to laundering, colorfastness to drycleaning, colorfastness to crocking, colorfastness to light, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to intimates, colorfastness to sea water, colorfastness to chlorinated pool water, colorfastness to chlorine and non-chlorine bleach, dimensional change, stretch, flammability, garnet twist, and fiber content.

4.2 It is recognized that, for purposes of fashion or aesthetics, the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable products that do not conform to all of the requirements listed in Table 1. SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Knitted fabrics should meet all of the requirements in Table 1 to be suitable for use in the manufacture of dress suits and sportswear jackets, slacks, and trousers for men and boys.  
5.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable some fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1. For example, the fabric could be dyed in shades that do not meet the requirement in Table 1 for colorfastness to light, yet be acceptable to the ultimate consumer because the shade is fashionable. In such cases, one or more of the requirements may be modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller.  
5.2.1 If any of the requirements in Table 1 are modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller, any reference to the specification shall specify that “this fabric meets ASTM Specification D3782 except for the following characteristic(s).”

SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers men's and boys' knitted dress suit and knitted sportswear jacket, slack, and trouser fabrics composed of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers.

Standard Performance Specification for Woven Drycleanable Coat Fabrics

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller, woven fabrics intended for this end use should meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1 of this specification. (A) See Note 6.  
4.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics may find acceptable fabrics that do not conform to all of the requirements in Table 1; therefore, one or more of the requirements may be modified by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller.  
4.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shall specify that: This fabric meets Performance Specification D3562 except for the following characteristic(s).  
4.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reached between the purchaser and the seller, and in case of controversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended to be used as a guide only. As noted in 4.2, ultimate consumer demands dictate varying performance parameters for any particular style of fabric.  
4.4 The significance and uses of particular properties and test methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of the specified test methods.
SCOPE
1.1 This performance specification covers woven drycleanable topcoats, overcoats, and dress coat outer fabrics composed of any textile fiber or mixture of textile fibers.  
1.2 This performance specification is not applicable to woven fabrics used for linings, interlinings, rainwear garments, and all-purpose, water-repellent garments nor is this performance specification applicable to bonded or laminated fabrics.  
1.3 These requirements apply to both the length and width directions for those properties where each fabric direction is pertinent.  
1.4 When a fabric requires special treatment, specific methods will be described as they are developed for that material, and such special tests will have precedence over these general requirements.
