ASTM D5355-95(2012)
(Test Method)Standard Test Method for Specific Gravity of Oils and Liquid Fats
Standard Test Method for Specific Gravity of Oils and Liquid Fats
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
This test method is used to measure the specific gravity of all oils and liquid fats that are used to soften leather, or that are used in products to soften leather. The specific gravity is one parameter that can be used to monitor the quality of these products.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the specific gravity of oils and liquid fats by calculating the ratio of the weight of a unit volume of the sample to the weight of a unit volume of water at 25°C.
1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Standard Test Method for
Specific Gravity of Oils and Liquid Fats
This standard is issued under the fixed designation D5355; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of
original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A
superscript epsilon (´) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.
