In der vorliegenden Internationalen Norm werden die Anforderungen festgelegt und eine Typeneinteilung der Gipse vorgenommen, die in der Zahnheilkunde Anwendung finden, wie zum Beispiel bei der Abdrucknahme und der Herstellung von Modellen, Abgüssen oder Formen. Sie enthält die anzuwendenden Prüfverfahren, um die Übereinstimmung mit diesen Anforderungen festzustellen. Außerdem enthält sie die Anforderungen an die Etikettierung der Packungen und an die entsprechende Gebrauchsanweisung, die jeder Packung beigefügt werden muß.

La présente Norme internationale donne une classification des, et spécifie les exigences relatives aux, produits à base de gypse utilisés à des fins dentaires, telles que la prise d'empreintes buccales, la fabrication de modèles, de moulages ou de matrices. Elle spécifie les méthodes d'essai à appliquer pour déterminer la conformité à ces exigences. Elle renferme également des prescriptions concernant l'étiquetage des emballages et les instructions appropriées accompagnant chaque emballage.
