This part 3386 določa metodo za določanje diagrama napetost/raztezek penjenih polimernih materialov z gostoto, večjo od 250 kg/m3. Diagram napetost/raztezek je mera za nosilnostne lastnosti materiala, čeprav ne nujno za njegovo sposobnost vzdržati dolgotrajno obremenitev. Diagram napetost/raztezek se razlikuje od trdnostih lastnosti vtiskovanja (kot se določajo v skladu z IS0 2439), na katere, kakor je znano, vplivajo debelina in natezne lastnosti preskušanega penjenega materiala, oblika plošče za stiskanje ter oblike in velikosti preskušanca. IS0 3386-l določa metodo za penjene materiale z nizko gostoto in se razlikuje od 2. dela po naslednjem:
1. del obravnava materiale z gostoto do 250 kg/m’, medtem ko 2. del obravnava predvsem materiale z gostoto nad 250 kg/m3; iz 2. dela so bile izbrisane vrednosti obremenitev pri stisljivosti; 2. del ne dovoljuje uporabe valjastih preskušancev. Ta del ISO 3386 je splošna metoda za preskušanje gostejših penjenih materialov (tj. ekspandiranih penjenih gum), merjenje pa poteka na eni ali več točkah na strmo vzpenjajočem se delu krivulje napetost/raztezek. Faktor oblike preskušanca je pomemben, zato so primerljivi rezultati preskušanja pridobljeni le na preskušancih z enakim faktorjem oblike. OPOMBA 1: Za primerjavo se metoda lahko uporablja pri materialu z gostoto 150 kg/m3 ali več.

This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN ISO 3386-2:1998; it was approved by CEN on 14 April 2010.
