Pressboard and presspaper for electrical purposes - Part 1: Definitions and general requirements

This part of IEC 60641 contains definitions related to a classification of, and the general requirements to be fulfilled by, pressboard and presspaper for electrical purposes. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are: the kind of surface finish shall no longer be specified in the standard, fixed nominal thicknesses have been replaced by preferred thicknesses, types B.6 and P.6 have been replaced, but the designations have been kept and types B.7 and P.7 have been deleted.

Cette partie de la CEI 60641 contient des définitions relatives à une classification des cartons comprimés et des papiers comprimés à usages électriques, ainsi que les exigences générales. Les principales modifications par rapport à l'édition précédente sont: le type de finition de surface ne doit plus être spécifié dans la norme, les épaisseurs nominales fixes ont été remplacées par des épaisseurs préférentielles, les types B.6 et P.6 ont été remplacés mais les désignations ont été conservées et les types B.7 et P.7 ont été supprimés.

Foreword
The text of document 15/352/CDV, future edition 2 of IEC 60641-1, prepared by IEC TC 15, Solid
electrical insulating materials, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel Unique Acceptance
Procedure and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60641-1 on 2007-12-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 60641-1:1995.
The main changes with respect to EN 60641-1:1995 are listed below:
– the kind of surface finish shall no longer be specified in the standard;
– fixed nominal thicknesses have been replaced by preferred thicknesses;
– types B.6 and P.6 have been replaced, but the designations have been kept;
– types B.7 and P.7 have been deleted.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2008-09-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2010-12-01

types A, B and C replaced by general and fishpaper types and addition of a symbol for each type in the classification;
addition of white, blue, brown, and addition of a symbol for each colour;
deletion of the thickness of 15,0 mm, the length, the mass and the dimension of rolls from the general requirements;
addition of the manufacturer's name, trademark (if any), nominal thickness, manufacture date, and lot number in the conditions of supply.

The main changes with respect to the previous edition are: - Requirements for types B.0.3 and B.5.3 were added; - The precompressed type B.3.1 was divided in B.3.1A and B.3.1B (higher flexibility); - Types B.6.1 has been replaced with a new type, but the designation has been kept; - Type B.7.1 has been deleted; - The thickness relation of the properties has been simplified; and - The values were adjusted to today's needs of users.
