FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for

Protective enclosures, guards and similar parts shall be non-detachable parts or shall be
interlocked and shall have adequate mechanical strength.

The requirement concerning moving parts of the appliance does not apply to parts necessary
to perform the tilting movement such as handles or handwheels.
Add the following new subclauses:
20.102 For appliances with automated raising and lowering of the basket, the motorized parts
shall not entrap the fingers or hands of the user during operation or cleaning.
Compliance is checked by inspection.
The force acting on fingers and hands shall not be greater than that contributed to the total
weight of the basket including the maximum food load in accordance with the instructions for
use.
20.103 Automatic opening and closing of the lid shall not cause a hazard.
For a motorized tilting movement of the lid, compliance is checked by verifying that, in the
middle of the front edge of the appliance when the distance between the moving lid and the
fixed closing edge of the appliance is 50 mm while closing, the following thresholds are not
exceeded:
– a surface pressure of 50 N/cm ;
– a force of 150 N; and
– a kinetic energy of 4 J, measured or calculated during lid closure.
NOTE Motorized movement performed by a hold-to-run device is not considered an automatic operation.

22 Construction
22.110 Replace "grips" with "handles" and add the following at the end of the first paragraph:
Lids shall be equipped with at least with one handle, if not motorized.
