FOREWORD
1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote
international cooperation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation is
entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may
participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the
two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters, prepared by technical committees on
which all the National Committees having a special interest therein are represented, express, as nearly as
possible, an international consensus of opinion on the subjects dealt with.
3) They have the form of recommendations for international use published in the form of standards, technical
reports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees in that sense.
4) In order to promote international unification, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC International
Standards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards. Any
divergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearly
indicated in the latter.
5) The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any
equipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards.

This second edition of IEC 901 cancels and replaces the first edition, published in 1987,
amendment 1 (1989) and amendment 2 (1992). The main changes relate to:
– the removal of safety related items;
– the abandonment of the division into three sections;
– the introduction of new terminology;
– a new numbering of the lamp data sheets;
– the introduction of new lamp data sheets.

PRESCRIPTIONS DE PERFORMANCES
1 Section 1: Généralités
1.1 Domaine d’application
La présente Norme Internationale fournit les prescriptions de performances des lampes à
fluorescence à culot unique pour éclairage général.
Les prescriptions de la présente norme concernent uniquement les essais de type.
Les conditions de conformité, y compris les méthodes d’évaluation statistique, sont à l’étude.
La présente norme traite des types de lampes et des modes de fonctionnement avec ballast
externe suivants:
a) lampes à dispositif d’amorçage interne et à cathodes préchauffées, destinées à fonc-
tionner aux fréquences des réseaux à courant alternatif;
b) lampes à dispositif d’amorçage externe et à cathodes préchauffées, destinées
à fonctionner à l’aide d’un starter aux fréquences des réseaux à courant alternatif et à
fonctionner, en outre, en haute fréquence;
c) lampes à dispositif d’amorçage externe et à cathodes préchauffées, destinées à
fonctionner sans l’aide d’un starter aux fréquences des réseaux à courant alternatif et
à fonctionner, en outre, en haute fréquence;
d) lampes à dispositif d’amorçage externe et à cathodes préchauffées, destinées à
fonctionner en haute fréquence;
e) lampes à dispositif d’amorçage externe et à cathodes non préchauffées, destinées
à fonctionner en haute fréquence.
1.2 Déclaration générale
On peut s’attendre à ce que les lampes conformes à la présente norme s’amorcent et
fonctionnent de façon satisfaisante sous des tensions comprises entre 92 % et 106 % de la
tension d’alimentation assignée et à une température ambiante comprise entre 10 °C
et 50 °C, lorsqu’elles sont associées à un ballast conforme à la CEI 60921 ou à la CEI 60929,
le cas échéant, à un starter conforme à la CEI 60155 ou à la CEI 60927, et à un luminaire
conforme à la CEI 60598-1.
NOTE Pour certaines lampes, des informations complémentaires pour la conception du ballast sont fournies pour
assurer un amorçage correct à une température ambiante de –15 °C.

1 Section 1: General
1.1 Scope
This International Standard specifies the performance requirements for single-capped
fluorescent lamps for general lighting service.
The requirements of this standard relate only to type testing. Conditions of compliance,
including methods of statistical assessment, are under consideration.
The following lamp types and modes of operation with external ballasts are included:
a) lamps operated with an internal means of starting, having preheated cathodes, for oper-
ation on a.c. mains frequencies;
b) lamps operated with an external means of starting, having preheated cathodes, for
operation on a.c. mains frequencies with the use of a starter, and additionally operating on
high frequency;
c) lamps operated with an external means of starting, having preheated cathodes, for oper-
ation on a.c. mains frequencies without the use of a starter (starterless), and additionally
operating on high frequency;
d) lamps operated with an external means of starting, having preheated cathodes, for oper-
