Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (the International Electrotechnical Commission)
form the specialized system for worldwide standardization. National bodies that are members of ISO or IEC
participate in the development of International Standards through technical committees established by the
respective organization to deal with particular fields of technical activity. ISO and IEC technical committees
collaborate in fields of mutual interest. Other international organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO and IEC, also take part in the work.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
In the field of information technology, ISO and IEC have established a joint technical committee, ISO/IEC JTC 1.
Draft International Standards adopted by the joint technical committee are circulated to national bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the national bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this part of ISO/IEC 14443 may be the subject of

Introduction
ISO/IEC 14443 is one of a series of International Standards describing the parameters for identification cards as
defined in ISO/IEC 7810 and the use of such cards for international interchange.
This part of ISO/IEC 14443 describes the physical characteristics of proximity cards.
This part of ISO/IEC 14443 does not preclude the incorporation of other standard technologies on the card, such
as those referenced in the informative annex A.
Contactless card Standards cover a variety of types as embodied in ISO/IEC 10536 (Close-coupled cards),
ISO/IEC 14443 (Proximity cards), ISO/IEC 15693 (Vicinity cards). These are intended for operation when very
near, nearby and at a longer distance from associated coupling devices respectively.
ISO/IEC 14443 is intended to allow operation of Proximity cards in the presence of other contactless cards
conforming to ISO/IEC 10536 and ISO/IEC 15693 standards.

1 Scope
This part of ISO/IEC 14443 specifies the physical characteristics of proximity cards (PICC). It applies to
identification cards of the card type ID-1 operating in proximity of a coupling device.
This part of ISO/IEC 14443 shall be used in conjunction with later parts of ISO/IEC 14443.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of
this part of ISO/IEC 14443. For dated references, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these
publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part of ISO/IEC 14443 are encouraged to

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) et la CEI (Commission électrotechnique internationale)
forment le système spécialisé de la normalisation mondiale. Les organismes nationaux membres de l'ISO ou de la

Introduction
L’ISO/CEI 14443 fait partie d’une série de Normes internationales qui décrivent les paramètres des cartes
d’identification, tels qu’ils sont définis dans l’ISO/CEI 7810, et l’utilisation de ces cartes pour les échanges
internationaux.
La présente partie de l’ISO/CEI 14443 décrit les caractéristiques physiques des cartes de proximité.
Elle n’exclut pas l’intégration à ces cartes d’autres technologies normalisées, comme celles mentionnées dans
l’annexe A informative.
Les technologies normalisées concernant les cartes sans contact recouvrent différents types de cartes, comme le
montrent l’ISO/CEI 10536 (cartes à couplage rapproché), l’ISO/CEI 14443 (cartes de proximité) et l’ISO/CEI 15693
(cartes de voisinage). Ces cartes sont à utiliser respectivement à proximité immédiate, à proximité et à une
certaine distance des coupleurs associés.
L’ISO/CEI 14443 a pour objet de permettre le fonctionnement des cartes de proximité en présence d’autres cartes
sans contact conformes à l’ISO/CEI 10536 et à l’ISO/CEI 15693.

1 Domaine d'application
La présente partie de l’ISO/CEI 14443 prescrit les caractéristiques physiques des cartes de proximité. Elle est
applicable aux cartes d’identification de type ID-1 fonctionnant à proximité d’un coupleur.
L’utilisateur de la présente partie de l’ISO/CEI 14443 doit également se référer aux autres parties de
l’ISO/CEI 14443.
2 Références normatives
Les documents normatifs suivants contiennent des dispositions qui, par suite de la référence qui y est faite,
constituent des dispositions valables pour la présente partie de l'ISO/CEI 14443. Pour les références datées, les
