BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 686,35 mm Fümsîrips -Dimensions and formats, was drawn up
by Technical Committee ISO/TC 42, Photognrphy, the Secretariat of which is held by the United
States of America Standards Institute (USASI).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1961 and led, in 1965, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.

In September 1965, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 878) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved] subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by
the following Member Bodies :

DIMENSIONS AND FORMATS
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation defines dimensions, general layout and material for 35 mm perforated
filmstrips carrying transparent pictures for filmstrip projection. It does not cover details regarding
mask opening of the filmstrip projector.
2. DESIGN OF FILMSTRIP
2.1 Width and perforation
The width and perforation of the filmstrip should meet the dimensional requirements specified
for perforation Types 1, 2 and 3 of IS0 Recommendation R 491, Cutting and perforating
dimensions for 35 mm motion-picture raw stock film.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 686, Diapositives 35 mm en bandes - Dimensions et formats, a
été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 42, Photographie, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le
United States of America Standards Institute (USASI).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1961 et abou-
tirent, en 1965, à l'adoption d'un Projet de Recommandation ISO.

En septembre 1965, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 878) fut soumis à l'enquête de tous
les Comités Membres de l'IS0. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d'ordre rédac-
tionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

Ailemagne Israël Suisse
Argentine Italie Tchécoslovaquie

Un Comité Membre se déclara opposé à l'approbation du Projet :

Le Projet de Recommandation IS0 fut alors soumis par correspondance au Conseil de l'IS0 qui
décida, en mars 1968, de l'accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.

1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 fme les I mensions, la disposition g-.iérale et la nature du support
des diapositives 35 mm en bandes perforées portant des images transparentes pour projection. Elle ne
s'applique pas aux détails de la fenêtre image du projecteur.
2. SPÉCIFICATIONS DE LA BANDE
2.1 Largeur et perforations
La largeur et les perforations de la bande doivent respecter les spécifications dimensionnelles
relatives aux perforations types 1, 2 et 3 de la Recommandation ISO/R 491, Dimensions de
coupe et de perforation du film vierge de 35 mrn.
2.2 Amorces de début et de fin
