Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide
federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work
of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IS0
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for
which a technical committee has been established has the right to be
represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental
and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. IS0
collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission
(IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are
circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting
a vote.
International Standard IS0 4074-5 was prepared by Technical Committee
lSO/TC 157, Mechanical contraceptives.
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition
(IS0 4074-5:1984), of which it constitutes a technical revision.
IS0 4074 consists of the following parts, under the general title Rubber
condoms:
- Part 1: Requirements
- Part 2: De termination of length
- Part 3: De termination of width
- Part 5: Testing for holes - Water leak test
- Part 6: Determination of bursting volume and pressure
- Part 7: Oven conditioning
- Part 9: De termination of tensile properties
- Part IO: Packaging and labeling - Condoms in consumer packages

Dimensions in millimetres
1 Scope
This part of IS0 4074 specifies the method of testing
a rubber condom for holes by observing any leakage
from the condom after it has been filled with water.
2 Principle
Filling the condom with a specified volume of water
and examining for visible water leakage through the
wall of the suspended condom. In the absence of any
bounded
leakage the condom is then rolled on coloured ab-
sorbent paper which is subsequently examined for
signs of leakage.
