BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 329, Large Pallets for Through Transit of Goods, was
drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 51, Pallets for Unit Load Method of Materials
Handling, the Secretariat of which is held by the British Standards Institution (B.S.I.).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1952 and led, in 1960,
to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In February 1961, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 434) was circulated to all
the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an
editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

Czechoslovakia Italy Turkey
Denmark Mexico United Kingdom
France New Zealand U.S.S.R.
One Member Body opposed the approval of the Draft: U.S.A.
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0
1963, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

Throughout this IS0 Recommendation, dimensions are given both in inches and in millimetres.
The dimensions in millimetres and in inches are considered to be " corresponding values ",
although some of these are not exactly equivalent. The limits of tolerance given in clause 2
are the amounts required to ensure that the maximum and minimum dimensions are the same
with each system of measurement.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 329, Palettes de grandes dimensions pour transport direct
de charges unitaires, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 51, Plateaux de
chargement pour transport et manutention directe de charges unitaires, dont le Secrétariat
est assuré par la British Standards Institution (B.S.I.).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1952
et aboutirent en 1960 à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.

En février 1961, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 434) fut soumis à l’enquête
de tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifi-
cations d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

de I’ISO, qui décida, en août 1963, de l’accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.

Les dimensions en millimètres et en inches sont considérées comme des *valeurs correspon-
dantes )), bien que certaines d’entre elles ne soient pas rigoureusement équivalentes. Les limites
de tolérance données dans le paragraphe 2 sont les grandeurs nécessaires pour que les dimensions
maximales et minimales soient les mêmes dans les deux systèmes de mesure.
