Paints and varnishes — Evaluation of degradation of coatings — Designation of quantity and size of defects, and of intensity of uniform changes in appearance — Part 7: Assessment of degree of chalking by velvet method

ISO 4628-7:2003 describes a method suitable, in particular, for rating the degree of chalking on white or coloured exterior coatings and coating systems on rough surfaces (i.e. those having a roughness greater than segment 4 of reference comparator G as described in ISO 8503-1). The test method specified may also be used for the assessment of the degree of chalking of coatings and coating systems on smooth surfaces, but the method specified in ISO 4628-6 is preferable for this purpose. The test method is applicable to coatings and coating systems on mineral substrates, e.g. fibre cement, brick, concrete and renderings, independent of the structure of the surface. The method can be used quite effectively by experienced operators and is recommended for laboratory use as well as for on-site evaluation.

L'ISO 4628-7:2003 spécifie, en particulier, une méthode appropriée de cotation du degré de farinage de revêtements extérieurs blancs ou teintés et de systèmes de revêtement de surfaces rugueuses (c'est-à-dire présentant une rugosité supérieure à celle du cadran 4 de l'échantillon de comparaison viso-tactile G décrit dans l'ISO 8503-1). La méthode d'essai spécifiée peut également servir à évaluer le degré de farinage des revêtements et systèmes de revêtement de surfaces lisses, mais la méthode spécifiée dans l'ISO 4628-6 est préférable à cet effet. La méthode d'essai s'applique aux revêtements et aux systèmes de revêtement de subjectiles minéraux, par exemple fibres-ciment, brique, béton et enduits, quelle que soit la structure de la surface. Cette méthode d'essai peut être parfaitement appliquée par des opérateurs expérimentés et on la recommande pour les laboratoires ainsi que pour procéder à une évaluation sur chantier.

Предисловие
Международная организация по стандартизации (ISO) является всемирной федерацией национальных
организаций по стандартизации (комитетов-членов ISO). Разработка международных стандартов
обычно осуществляется техническими комитетами ISO. Каждый комитет-член, заинтересованный в
деятельности, для которой был создан технический комитет, имеет право быть представленным в этом

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de
normalisation (comités membres de l'ISO). L'élaboration des Normes internationales est en général confiée
aux comités techniques de l'ISO. Chaque comité membre intéressé par une étude a le droit de faire partie du
