Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (the
International Electrotechnical Commission) form the specialized system
for worldwide standardization. National bodies that are members of IS0
or IEC participate in the development of International Standards through
technical committees established by the respective organization to deal
with particular fields of technical activity. IS0 and IEC technical
committees collaborate in fields of mutual interest. Other international
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with IS0
and IEC, also take part in the work.
In the field of information technology, IS0 and IEC have established a
joint technical committee, ISO/IEC JTCl. In addition to developing
International Standards, ISO/IEC JTCI has created a Special Group on
Functional Standardization for the elaboration of International
Standardized Profiles.
An International Standardized Profile is an internationally agreed,
harmonized document which identifies a standard or group of standards,
together with options and parameters, necessary to accomplish a function
or set of functions.
Draft International Standardized Profiles are circulated to national bodies
for voting. Publication as an International Standardized Profile requires
approval by at least 75% of the national bodies casting a vote.
International Standardized Profile ISO/IEC ISP 12062-4 was prepared
with the collaboration of:
- OS1 Asia-Oceania Workshop (AOW);
- European Workshop for Open Systems (EWOS) bointly with the
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)];
- OSE Implementors’ Workshop (OIW)

Introduction
This part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 is defined within the context of Functional
Standardization, in accordance with the principles specified by ISOAEC
TR 10000, “Framework and Taxonomy of International Standardized
Profiles”. The context of Functional Standardization is one part of the
overall field of Information Technology (IT) standardization activities,
covering base standards, profiles, and registration mechanisms. A profile
defines a combination of base standards that collectively perform a
specific well-defined IT function. Profiles standardize the use of options
and other variations in the base standards, and provide a basis for the
development of uniform, internationally recognized system tests.
One of the most important rôles for an ISP is to serve as the basis for the
development (by organizations other than IS0 and IEC) of internationally
recognized tests and test centres. lSPs are produced not simply to
‘legitimize’ a particular choice of base standards and options, but to
promote real system interoperability. The development and widespread
acceptance of tests based on this and other ISPs is crucial to the
successful realization of this goal.
The text for this part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 was developed in close
cooperation between the MHS Expert Groups of the three Regional
Workshops: the North American OSE Implementors’ Workshop (OIW),
the European Workshop for Open Systems (EWOS) (jointly with the
corresponding expert group of the European Telecommunications
Standards Institute - ETSI) and the OS1 Asia-Oceania Workshop (AOW).
This part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 is harmonized between these three
Workshops and it has been ratified by the plenary assemblies of all three
Workshops.

1 Scope
1.1 General
This part of ISO/IEC ISP 12062 covers access to a Message Transfer System (MTS) in an Interpersonal
Messaging (IPM) environment using the P3 MTS Access Protocol (see also figure 1). These specifications form
part of the Interpersonal Messaging application functions, as defined in the parts of ISOAEC ISP 12062, and are
based on the Common Messaging content type-independent specifications in ISOAEC ISP 1061 1.
1.2 Position within the taxonomy
This part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 is the fourth part of a multipart ISP identified in ISOAEC TR 10000-2 as “AMH2,
Message Handling Systems - Interpersonal Messaging” (see also ISOAEC TR 10000-1, 8.2 for the definition of
multipart ISPs).
This part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 specifies the following profile:

The AMH23 profile may be combined with any T-Profiles (see ISOAEC TR 10000) specifying the OS1
L. connection-mode Transport service.
1.3 Scenario
The model used is one of access to an MTS by an IPM MTS-user - specifically, the intercommunication between
a message transfer agent (MTA) and an IPM MTS-user using the P3 protocol, as shown in figure 1.

The AMH23 profile covers all aspects of the MTS Abstract Service, as defined in clause 8 of ISOAEC 10021-4,
when realized using the P3 protocol in an IPM environment.
The OS1 upper layer services and protocols to support the Message Handling Systems functions covered by the
AMH23 profile are specified in subclause 1.3 of ISO/IEC ISP 1061 1-4.

Terms used in this part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 are defined in the referenced base standards; in addition, the
following terms are defined.
3.1 General
Basic requirement : an Element of Service, protocol element, procedural element or other identifiable feature
specified in the base standards which is required to be supported by all MHS implementations.
Functional group : a specification of one or more related Elements of Service, protocol elements, procedural
elements or other identifiable features specified in the base standards which together support a significant
optional area of MHS functionality.
NOTE - A functional group can cover any combination of MHS features specified in the base standards for which the effect
of implementation can be determined at a standardized external interface - i.e. via a standard OS1 communications protocol
(other forms of exposed interface, such as a standardized programmatic interface, are outside the scope of this version of
ISO/IEC ISP 12062).
3.2 Support classification

To specify the support level of operations, arguments, results and other protocol features for this part of ISOAEC
ISP 12062, the following terminology is defined.

The following classifications are used in this part of ISO/IEC ISP 12062 to specify
requirements - i.e.
NOTE - The following classifications apply only to MTS-users, as the requirements for support of operations, arguments,
results and other protocol features by an MTA are as specified in ISO/IEC 1061 1-4.
In the case of arguments and results (protocol elements), the classification is relative to that of the containing
element, if any. Where the constituent elements of a non-primitive element are not individually specified, then
each shall be considered to have the classification of that element. Where the range of values to be supported
for an element is not specified, then all values defined in the MHS base standards shall be supported.
mandatory support (m) : the element or feature shall be supported. An implementation shall be able to
generate the element, and/or receive the element and perform all associated procedures (i.e. implying the ability
to handle both the syntax and the semantics of the element) as relevant, as specified in the MHS base
standards. Where support for origination (generation) and reception are not distinguished, then both capabilities
shall be assumed.

This part of ISOAEC ISP 12062 states requirements upon implementations to achieve interworking. A claim of
conformance to this part of ISO/IEC ISP 12062 is a claim that all requirements in the relevant base standards
are satisfied, and that all requirements in the following clauses and in annexes A and B of this part of ISOAEC
ISP 12062 are satisfied.

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) et la CE1 (Commission
électrotechnique internationale) forment ensemble un système consacré à

Introduction
La présente partie du profil normalisé international ISO/CEI ISP 12062 est
définie dans le contexte de la normalisation fonctionnelle, conformément
aux principes spécifiés par I'ISO/CEI TR 10000, ((Structure et taxinomie des
profils normalisés internationaux)). Le contexte de normalisation fonction-
nelle n'est qu'une partie de l'ensemble des activités de normalisation des
technologies de l'information (IT), couvrant les normes de base, les profils
et les mécanismes d'enregistrement. Un profil définit une combinaison de
normes de base qui, collectivement, remplissent une fonction IT bien défi-
nie. Les profils normalisent l'utilisation d'options et autres variations dans les
normes de base, et fournissent une base pour la mise au point d'essais de
systèmes uniformes et reconnus au niveau international.
L'un des rôles les plus importants d'un ISP est de servir de base au déve-
loppement (par des organismes autres que I'ISO et la CEI) d'essais et de
centres d'essais reconnus sur le plan international. Les ISP sont produits
non seulement pour ((légitimer), un choix particulier de normes de base et
d'options, mais aussi pour promouvoir la possibilité réelle d'échanges
d'informations entre les systèmes. Le développement et l'approbation géné-
ralisée des essais fondés sur cet ISP et sur d'autres sont essentiels pour la
réalisation de cet objectif.
Le texte de la présente partie de I'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 a été mis au point en

1.1 Généralités
La présente partie de i'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 contient l'ensemble des spécifications du support des éléments de service
MHS et des fonctionnalités MHS associées qui ne sont généralement pas appropriées dans la perspective d'un pro-
tocole MHS unique. Ces spécifications forment une partie des fonctions d'application de messagerie IPM, comme
défini dans I'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 ; elles sont basées sur les spécifications indépendantes du type de contenu de mes-
sagerie commune de I'ISO/CEI ISP 1061 1.
1.2 Position dans la taxinomie
La présente partie de I'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 est la quatrième partie d'un ISP a plusieurs parties désigné dans I'ISO/CEI
TR 10000-2 comme (
paragraphe 8.2 pour la définition d'un ISP a plusieurs parties).
La présente partie de I'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 spécifie le profil suivant :

Le profil AMH23 couvre tous les aspects du service abstrait MS, comme défini dans le paragraphe 8 de
I'ISO/CEI 10021-4, lorsqu'il est réalisé à l'aide du protocole P3 dans un environnement IPM.
Les services et les protocoles de couches supérieures OS1 pour le support des fonctions de systèmes de messagerie
couvertes par le profil AMH24 sont spécifiés dans le paragraphe 1.3 de I'ISO/CEI ISP 1061 1-4.

3 Définitions

référence ; par ailleurs, les termes suivants sont définis.

3.1 Généralités
prescription de base : Élément de service, de protocole, de procédure (ou autre fonction identifiable spécifiée dans
les normes de base) devant être supporté par toutes les réalisations MHS.
groupe fonctionnel : Spécification d'un ou de plusieurs éléments de service, de protocole ou de procédure (ou
d'autres fonctions identifiables énoncées dans les normes de base) qui, ensemble, supportent une zone optionnelle
significative de fonctionnalités MHS.
NOTE - Un gïoupe fonctionnel peut couvrir toute combinaison de fonctions MHS spécifiées dans les normes de base pour lesquelles l'effet de
la mise en œuvre peut être déterminé au niveau d'une interface externe normalisée, c'est-à-dire via un protocole de communications OS1 norma-
lisé (d'autres formes d'interfaces exposées, telle qu'une interface programmatique normalisée, n'entrent pas dans le cadre de la présente version
de I'ISOICEI ISP 12062).

3.2 Classification de support
Afin de spécifier le niveau de support des objets et des éléments d'information pour la présente partie de I'ISO/CEI
ISP 12062, la terminologie suivante est définie.
Les classifications suivantes sont utilisées dans la présente partie de I'ISO/CEI ISP 12062 pour spécifier les prescrip-
tions statiques - c'est-à-dire la capacité.

NOTE - Les classifications suivantes ne s'appliquent qu'a des utilisateurs MTS, selon les prescriptions pour le support des opérations, des argu-
ments, des résultats et d'autres fonctions de protocoles par un MTA spécifiées dans I'ISOICEI 1061 1-4.
Dans le cas d'arguments et de résultats (éléments de protocole), la classification est relative a celle de l'élément con-
tenant des informations, s'il existe. Lorsque les éléments constituant un élément non primitif ne sont pas spécifiés
individuellement, chacun de ces éléments doit être considéré pour obtenir la classification de cet élément. Lorsque
l'échelle de valeurs à supporter pour un élément n'est pas spécifiée, toutes les valeurs définies dans les normes de
base MHS doivent être Supportées.
support obligatoire (m) : L'élément doit être supporté. Une mise en œuvre doit être en mesure de générer et/ou de
recevoir l'élément et d'effectuer toutes les procédures associées (a savoir, impliquant la capacité de traiter à la fois
la syntaxe et la sémantique de l'élément) dans les cas appropriés, comme défini dans les normes de base MHS. Lors-
que la distinction n'est pas faite entre le support pour l'émission (génération) et la réception, les deux capacités doi-
vent être prises en charge.
