BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 524, Hard Metal Wire Drawing Dies - Interchangeability
Dimensions of Pellets and Cues, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 29, Small Tools,
the Secretariat of which is held by the Association Française de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1950 and led, in 1963, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In April 1964, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 670) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved by the following Member Bodies:

HARD METAL WIRE DRAWING DIES
INTERCHANGEABILITY DIMENSIONS OF PELLETS AND CASES
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation relates to hard metal wire drawing dies and gives the main dimensions
for interchangeability of pellets and cases, together with details of marking. It may be supple-
mented later by standardization of the internal dimensions of the pellets, establishment of the
bearing diameter dl in relation to the material to be drawn and the drawing conditions, and a
uniform method of designation.
IS0 Recommendation includes an Appendix Z giving the terminology for characteristic ele-

ments of pellets and cases in several languages.
2. INTERCHANGEABILITY
The dimensions given in this IS0 Recommendation have been determined by taking as much
account as possible of existing practice and of the increasingly widespread use of multiple wire
drawing machines.
Although these dimensions are expressed only in millimetres, their adoption by all countries,
including those in which the inch system of measurement is most widely used, should ensure world-
wide interchangeability.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 524, Filières de tréfilage en carbure métallique - Dimensions
d’interchangeabilité des noyaux et des montures, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 29,
Petit outillage, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association Française de Normalisation
(AFNOR).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris en 1950 et aboutirent en 1963 à l’adop-
tion d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En avril 1964, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 670) fut soumis à l’enquête de tous
les Comités Membres de l’IS0. I1 fut approuvé par les Comités Membres suivants:

DIMENSIONS D'INTERCHANGEABILITE DES NOYAUX ET DES MONTURES
1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation ISO, relative aux filières de tréfilage en carbure métallique, donne
les dimensions principales d'interchangeabilité des noyaux et des montures, ainsi que les indica-
tions relatives au marquage. Elle pourra être complétée ultérieurement par une normalisation des
dimensions intérieures du noyau, de la détermination du diamètre de calibrage dl en fonction de
la matière à tréfiler et des conditions de tréfilage, et un mode de désignation unifié.
Cette Recommandation IS0 comporte en Appendice Z une terminologie, en plusieurs langues, des
éléments caractéristiques des noyaux et montures.
2. INTERCHANGEABILITE
L'
Les dimensions indiquées dans la présente Recommandation IS0 ont été déterminées en tenant
compte, dans toute la mesure du possible, des usages existants, ainsi que de l'utilisation de plus
en plus répandue des machines multiples à tréfiler.
Bien que ces dimensions soient exprimées exclusivement en millimètres, leur adoption par tous les
pays, y compris ceux dans lesquels l'emploi du système de mesures en inches est le plus répandu,
devrait permettre d'assurer une interchangeabilité
