SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 is the summary part of the DECT General Access Profile (GAP) Profile Test Specification (PTS). It is an ETSI standard for conformance testing of the GAP profile for the Portable Part (PP) and Fixed Part (FP), and it points test users to the ETSs and ISO/IEC methods needed to run those tests.

What does SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 specify?

SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 specifies the summary of the Profile Test Specification (PTS) for the DECT General Access Profile (GAP). It tells the reader which related standards are used for conformance testing and how the PTS is organized for the Portable Part and Fixed Part.

The scope says that this summary, together with the ETSs it references, makes up the GAP PTS. Clause 1 says the document is organized around general profile information in clause 4 and layer-by-layer test references in clause 5.

Clause 4 identifies the profile and the companion statements and proformas used with it. Clause 5 groups the test material by DECT protocol layer: NWK, DLC, MAC and PH. Annex A is an informative bibliography.

What are the key requirements of SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999?

SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 does not set product design rules; it defines how GAP conformance testing is assembled and what referenced material is needed. The key practical point is that a test house or implementer must use the named ETSs, proformas and abstract test suites in a consistent way.

Profile identification and related statements

Clause 4 identifies the GAP profile and links it to the profile specification, profile ICS proforma, PSTS parts, profile IXIT proforma and SCS proforma. In practice, this gives a common set of documents for declaring what an implementation supports and for matching that declaration to test material.

Layer-based test coverage

Clause 5.1 covers conformance testing for the Network (NWK) layer, clause 5.2 covers the Data Link Control (DLC) layer, clause 5.3 covers the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer, and clause 5.4 covers the Physical (PH) layer. This matters because each layer has its own protocol identification, PICS proforma, test purposes and abstract tests.

For the NWK layer, the applicability of the ATS includes basic speech and basic services and procedures concerning CC, MM and LCE entities. For the MAC layer, the ATS is marked with a modified remote ATM. For the PH layer, the applicability of the ATS covers general terminal attachment requirements and basic telephony applications.

Test artifacts used for each layer

The clause 5 tables show, for each layer, the protocol identification, the PICS proforma, the TSS and TP, the ATS, the applicability of the ATS, the ATM and the partial PIXIT. In practice, this tells the test engineer which test definitions are fixed and which implementation details must be supplied before test execution.

Conformance obligations for test systems and labs

Clause 6 says the test realizer of a Means Of Testing (MOT) for this PTS summary shall comply with ISO/IEC 9646-4. It also says laboratories running conformance test services according to this PTS summary shall comply with ISO/IEC 9646-5. In practice, this ties the GAP test work to recognized test-realization and laboratory-process rules.

What terms does SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 define?

  • Profile Test Specification (PTS) - The document set that defines how conformance testing for the GAP profile is organized.
  • Profile Specific Test Specification (PSTS) - The part of the PTS that contains the profile-specific test material for PT or FT.
  • Abstract Test Suite (ATS) - The abstract set of test cases used to check conformance in a layer or profile.
  • Test Suite Structure (TSS) - The structure that organizes the test suite into groups of test purposes.
  • Test Purposes (TP) - The stated objectives of the tests, used to show what each test is intended to verify.
  • Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - The statement used to declare which protocol features an implementation supports.
  • Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (IXIT) - The extra implementation information needed to run the tests correctly.
  • Means Of Testing (MOT) - The test system or realization used to execute the conformance tests.

Who uses SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999?

SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 is used by DECT equipment manufacturers, test laboratories, and conformity assessment teams working on GAP implementations. It is relevant for people preparing or checking the Portable Part and Fixed Part against the required protocol layers.

It is also used by engineers who need to build test plans, fill in PICS, IXIT or SCS material, or select the correct ATS for NWK, DLC, MAC or PH testing. Buyers and quality managers use it to see what evidence is expected when claiming GAP conformance.

Which standards are used with SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999?

Standard or familyWhat it contributes
ETS 300 175-1 to ETS 300 175-9The DECT Common Interface parts used as the technical base for the overview, layers, identities and addressing, security features, speech coding and PAP.
ETS 300 444The GAP profile specification referenced for profile identification.
ISO/IEC 9646-1 to ISO/IEC 9646-7The conformance testing methodology framework used for test concepts, ATS, TTCN, test realization, laboratory requirements, PTS and ICS.
I-ETS 300 176The approval test specification used for the PH layer TSS, TP and ATS.
ETS 300 476-1The PICS proforma for the NWK, DLC, MAC and PH layer testing.
ETS 300 497-1 to ETS 300 497-9The test case library providing TSS, TP and ATS for MAC, DLC and NWK testing.
ETS 300 474The profile ICS proforma used in the profile identification tables.
ETS 300 494-2 and ETS 300 494-3The PSTS parts for Portable radio Termination and Fixed radio Termination.

What does the SIST ETS 300 494-1:1999 document contain?

The document contains a foreword, scope, normative references, definitions and abbreviations, profile identification, layer-specific conformance testing summaries, a conformance clause, and an informative bibliography. Its tables point to the exact ETSs used for each layer and profile item.

It also identifies the test building blocks used in practice: protocol identification, PICS proformas, TSS and TP, ATS, applicability statements, ATM, partial PIXIT and profile-related proformas. That makes the document useful as a roadmap for selecting the correct test material before formal testing begins.

1 Scope
This ETS specifies the Profile Test Specification (PTS) summary referencing all the ETSs necessary for
the conformance testing of the DECT Generic Access Profile (GAP).
This GAP PTS summary together with the ETSs it references constitute the GAP PTS.
This ETS has the following structure:
- clause 4 contains general information relative to the profile including references to the related
ETSs.
- clause 5 contains a summary and references to the ETSs relevant for each of DECT protocol layers
to be tested.
2 Normative references
This ETS incorporates, by dated and undated reference, provisions from other publications. These
normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed
hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications
apply to this ETS only when incorporated in it by amendment or revision. For undated references the latest
edition of the publication referred to applies.
