Overview

SIST EN 300 058-2 V1.2.4:2005 defines the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the Call Waiting (CW) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. One (DSS1) protocol over Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). Published by SIST, this standard enables manufacturers, integrators, and service providers to declare and assess conformance to the requirements for Call Waiting functionality at the ISDN user-network interface. The document aligns with pan-European ISDN specifications and updates references to incorporate ETS 300 403 for basic call requirements.

Key Topics

  • ISDN Call Waiting Supplementary Service: Specification of CW supplementary service procedures according to DSS1.
  • PICS Proforma Methodology: Provides a structured questionnaire for suppliers to declare protocol implementation conformance, as outlined in ISO/IEC 9646-7 and ETSI guidelines.
  • Scope of Application: Covers user and network roles at the S and T reference points, supporting both public and private ISDN scenarios.
  • Conformance Assessment: Details mandatory, optional, and conditional protocol elements, supporting systematic and transparent evaluation of ISDN equipment.
  • Updated Normative References: Transitions core references from ETS 300 102-1 and associated I-ETSs to ETS 300 403 for base call support.
  • Document Structure: Includes guidance for completion, identification information, protocol coverage, and annexes listing detailed requirements and change history.
  • Alignment with International Testing Standards: Utilizes the conformance testing framework set by ISO/IEC 9646.

Applications

  • ISDN Equipment Manufacturing: Enables manufacturers to systematically declare compatibility with the ISDN Call Waiting service according to DSS1, ensuring products are interoperable in pan-European telecommunications environments.
  • Telecom Service Providers: Assists network operators in verifying that user and network-side equipment supports all required and optional CW functionalities, supporting reliable service delivery to end users.
  • System Integrators: Facilitates the integration of different ISDN network elements by providing clear conformance guidelines for both public and private ISDN interfaces.
  • Testing and Certification: Forms the baseline for conducting static conformance reviews and automated testing of protocol implementations.
  • Regulatory and Procurement Processes: Supports procurement documentation and regulatory submission by providing a standardized checklist of capabilities and options.

Related Standards

  • EN 300 058-1: Protocol specification for ISDN CW supplementary service using DSS1.
  • EN 300 403-1 and EN 300 403-3: Protocol specification and PICS proforma for DSS1 network layer basic call control, underpinning the call setup and management aspects referenced by this standard.
  • EN 300 195-1 / EN 300 195-2: Protocol and PICS specifications for supplementary service interactions over DSS1.
  • EN 300 196-1 / EN 300 196-2: Generic functional protocol specifications and associated PICS proforma for supplementary services.
  • ISO/IEC 9646 Series: International standards for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) conformance testing methodology, forming the basis for the PICS structure.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Call Waiting (CW) supplementary
service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

1 Scope
This second part of EN 300 058 is applicable to the stage three of the Call Waiting (CW) supplementary service for the
pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European public telecommunications
operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in ITU-T Recommendation
I.411 [11]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. Stage three identifies the
protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications service (see CCITT
Recommendation I.130 [10]).
The present document provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 CW supplementary service protocol as specified in EN 300 058-1 [1] in compliance with the relevant
requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [9].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to EN 300 058-1 [1] is required to complete a
copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of the present document and is required to provide the information
necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.

3 Definitions
For the purposes of the present document, the following definitions apply, in addition to those given in
EN 300 058-1 [1]:
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS): A statement made by the supplier of an Open Systems
