It applies to pressure sensing devices for the measurement of pressures of gases according to EN 437 or air or combustion products for maximum inlet pressures up to 500 kPa (5 bar).

It also describes the test procedures for evaluating these requirements and specifies information necessary for installation and use.
This European Standard is applicable to
— closed loop fuel/air ratio control systems, see 3.101;
— fuel/air ratio supervision systems, see 3.102;
— closed loop fuel/air ratio trim systems, see 3.103;
and does not differentiate into classification by heat input.
NOTE 1 European Standards for burners, appliances or processes which use ERC, ERS or ERT can override the requirements of this standard.

This European Standard specifies the safety, construction and performance requirements for pressure regulators (hereafter referred to as regulators) intended for use with gas burners and gas-burning appliances using fuel gases of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd families. This European Standard covers type testing only. It also provides additional information for the purchaser and user.
This European Standard is applicable to regulators that may be tested independently of gas burners and gas-burning appliances, which have a declared working pressure from above 500 mbar up to and including 5 bar.
This European Standard is also applicable to regulators incorporating safety devices.
NOTE 1 For safety accessories and pressure accessories, the requirements of EN 13611:2000, Annex F also apply.
NOTE 2 Regulators conforming to EN 88-2 fulfil also the requirements of EN 88-1.
Regulators intended to be used on pipe work installations for third family gases are also covered by EN 13785 and EN 13786.
This European Standard is not applicable to:
a) pressure regulators that are connected directly to mains pipe-work or to a container that maintains a standard distribution pressure;

- gas/air ratio pressure regulators which change an air outlet pressure in response to a gas signal pressure or a gas signal differential pressure.
This European Standard does not cover

This European Standard is applicable to
— electrically operated valves and to valves actuated by fluids including the pilot valves for these fluids if actuated electrically and
including release valves, but not to any external electrical devices for switching the actuating energy;
— automatic shut-off valves where the flow rate is controlled by external electrical signals proportional to the applied signal.

This European Standard applies also for safety accessories and pressure accessories with a product of the maximum allowable pressure PS and the volume V of less than 600 000 kPa • dm3 (6 000 bar• litres) or with a product of PS and DN of less than 300 000 kPa (3 000 bar) .
This European Standard applies for AC and DC supplied controls (for controls supplied by stand-alone battery system, battery systems for mobile applications or systems which are intended to be connected to DC supply networks controls see Annex I).
This European Standard is applicable to reset functions used for reset from lockout, e.g. due to ignition failure or temperature cut-out in burners and appliances (see Annex M).
This European Standard establishes methodologies for the determination of a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and the determination of a Performance Level (PL) (see Annex J, Annex K and Annex L).
This European Standard gives guidelines for environmental aspects (see Annex N).
This European Standard does not apply to mechanical controls for use with liquid fuels.
Protection against environmental impact in open air (i.e. capable of withstanding UV radiation, wind, rain, snow, dirt deposits, condensation, ice and hoar frost (see IEV 441-11-05:2005)), earth quake, external fire are not covered by this standard.
This European Standard should be used in conjunction with the specific control standard (see Bibliography).
