This part of EN ISO 13937 describes a method known as the ballistic pendulum (Elmendorf) method for the determination of tear force of textile fabrics. The method describes the measurement of the tear force required to propagate a single-rip tear of defined length from a cut in a fabric when a sudden force is applied. The test is mainlu applicable to woven textile fabrics. It may be applicable to fabrics produced by other techniques, e.g. to nonwovens (with the same under-mentioned restrictions as for the woven fabrics).

Dieser Teil von EN ISO 13937 beschreibt das Verfahren zur Bestimmung der Weiterreißkraft textiler Flächengebilde mit dem ballistischen Pendel nach Elmendorf. Bei diesem Verfahren wird die Kraft bestimmt, die zum schnellen Durchreißen eines von einem Einschnitt im textilen Flächengebilde ausgehenden Risses über einen bestimmten Weg erforderlich ist. Die Prüfung ist hauptsächlich für Gewebe anwendbar. Sie darf jedoch auch auf textile Flächengebilde angewendet werden, die nach anderen Techniken hergestellt wurden, z.B. auf Vliesstoffe (mit den gleichen unten genannten Einschränkungen wie für Gewebe).

La présente partie de l'EN ISO 13937 décrit une méthode appelée méthode balistique au pendule (méthode Elmendorf) pour la détermination de la force de déchirure des étoffes. La méthode prescrit le mode de mesurage de la force de déchirure nécessaire pour poursuivre une déchirure d'une longueur définie amorcée par une entaille dans une étoffe lors de l'application d'une force brusque. L'essai s'applique essentiellement aux étoffes tissées. Il peut etre appliqué aux étoffes produites par d'autres techniques, comme les non-tissés (avec les memes restrictions que celles qui sont mentionnées ci-dessous pour les étoffes tissées).
