This standard specifies a titrimetric method for determining the free-formaldehyde content of amino resins.

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein titrimetrisches Verfahren zum Bestimmen des Gehaltes an freiem Formaldehyd in Aminharzen fest. Sie ist ohne weitere Änderungen anwendbar für Harze, die durch Polykondensation von Harnstoff und Melamin mit Formaldehyd hergestellt wurden und für Furanharze, die durch Polykondensation von Furfuryalkohol mit Formaldehyd hergestellt wurden. Das Verfahren ist nicht für phenolharzmodifizierte Furanharze anwendbar.

IEC 60079-0:2011 spécifie les exigences générales de construction, d'essais et de marquage du matériel électrique et des Composants Ex destinés à être     utilisés  dans des  atmosphères explosives. Equipement électrique conforme à cette norme     est destiné   dans les  zones dangereuses dans lequel   les atmosphères explosives de gaz, causées  par des mélanges d'air et   de  gaz, de vapeurs ou de brouillards, existent dans des conditions atmosphériques normales. Les conditions  atmosphériques normales (relatives aux caractéristiques d'explosion  de l'atmosphère) dans lesquelles il peut  être supposé que l'appareil électrique peut être     utilisé sont   les suivantes:
- température de -20 °C à +60 °C;
- pression de 80 kPa (0,8 bar) à 110 kPa (1,1 bar) et;
- air avec teneur normale en oxygène, typiquement 21 % v/v.
La présente norme et les autres normes qui la complètent spécifient des exigences d'essai supplémentaires pour les équipements fonctionnant hors de la plage de température normale, une attention supplémentaire ultérieure et des essais complémentaires pouvant toutefois se révéler nécessaires pour les équipements fonctionnant hors de la plage de pression atmosphérique normale et de la teneur normale en oxygène, notamment pour les modes de protection qui dépendent de l'extinction d'une flamme tel qu'une "enveloppe antidéflagrante "d" (CEI 60079-1) ou de la limitation de l'énergie tel que la "sécurité intrinsèque "i"" (CEI 60079-11). Cette sixième édition annule et remplace la cinquième édition publiée en 2007 dont elle constitue une révision technique complète. Le contenu du corrigendum de novembre 2012, la feuille d'interprétation 1 de novembre 2013, le corrigendum de decembre 2013 et la feuille d'interprétation 2 d'octobre 2014 a été pris en considération dans cet exemplaire.

1 Scope
This International Standard specifies a titrimetric method for determining the free-formaldehyde content of amino
resins. It is applicable to resins resulting from the polycondensation of urea and melamine with formaldehyde and
to furan resins resulting from the polycondensation of furfuryl alcohol with formaldehyde without further modifi-
cation.
The method is not applicable to furan resins modified with phenolic resins.

3 Principle
The method is based on the following reactions:

Free formaldehyde and alcohol formaldehyde semiacetals in a test portion are reacted with excess sodium sulfite
solution at a temperature of 0 “C to form hydroxymethane sulfonate. The excess sodium sulfite is titrated with
iodine solution. The hydroxymethane sulfonate is decomposed with sodium carbonate solution and the sodium
sulfite liberated is titrated with iodine solution.
4 Reagents and materials
During the analysis, use only reagents of recognized analytical grade and only water of at least grade 3 purity as
defined in IS0 3696.
4.1 Sodium sulfite solution, c(Na,SO,) = 1 mol/l.
4.2 Acetic acid, c(CH,COOH) = 1 mol/l.
4.3 Sodium carbonate solution, c(Na,CO,) = 100 g/l.
4.4 Buffer solution.
Dissolve 12,37 g of boric acid in water in a 1 000 ml one-mark volumetric flask, add 100 ml of 1 mol/l sodium
hydroxide solution, dilute to the mark with water and mix well.
Before use, cool the solution to 0 “C.
4.5 Iodine, standard volumetric solution, c(Y&) = 0,l mol/l, i.e. 12,690 g/l. If necessary, standardize the solution
against standard volumetric sodium thiosulfate solution, c(Na,S,O,) = 0,l mol/l.
4.6 Dichloromethane, neutral (pH = 7).
Before use, cool the dichloromethane to 0 “C.
4.7 Starch, dissolved in hot water to give a IO g/l solution, or powdered starch, soluble in cold water (so-called
Zulkovsky starch is suitable).
4.8 Water containing ice, prepared from water of at least grade 3 purity as defined in IS0 3696.
