ISO 16610-31:2016 specifies the characteristics of the discrete robust Gaussian regression filter for the evaluation of surface profiles with spike discontinuities such as deep valleys and high peaks.

Dieses Dokument legt robuste Gaußsche Regressionsfilter für die Filterung von Oberflächenprofilen fest. Es legt insbesondere fest, wie langwellige und kurzwellige Anteile von Oberflächenprofilen mit hervorstehenden Tälern und Hügeln zerlegt werden.
Das für geschlossene Profile dargestellte Konzept ist für den Fall der Rundheitsfilterung anwendbar. Dieses Konzept kann gegebenenfalls auf verallgemeinerte geschlossene Profile erweitert werden, besonders für Oberflächenprofile mit Wiederholungsmerkmalen.

This document (EN ISO 16610-31:2025) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 213
"Dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification" in collaboration with Technical
Committee CEN/TC 290 “Dimensional and geometrical product specification and verification” the
secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2025, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by August 2025.

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 16610-31:2016), which has been technically
revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
— providing continuous Gaussian regression filters for open and for closed profiles;
— providing a normative iterative solution for continuous Gaussian regression filters.
