Fire hazard testing - Part 2-12: Glowing/hot-wire based test methods - Glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) test method for materials (IEC 60695-2-12:2010/A1:2014)

This part of IEC 60695 describes a glow-wire flammability index test for materials. It should be
used to measure, describe, and rank the properties of materials in response to heat caused
by contact with an electrically heated wire under controlled laboratory conditions. This may be
useful for the evaluation of materials for use in products that may be exposed to excess
thermal stress such as a fault current flowing through a wire, overloading of components,
and/or bad connections. It should not be used to solely describe or appraise the fire hazard or
fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of
this test may be used as elements of a fire hazard assessment which takes into account all of
the factors which are pertinent to a particular end use.

Ta del standarda IEC 60695 opisuje preskus za materiale, da se ugotovi indeks vnetljivosti z žarilno žico. Uporabljati ga je treba za
merjenje, opisovanje in rangiranje lastnosti materialov kot odziv na vročino, ki nastane pri stiku z električno segreto žico, pod nadzorovanimi laboratorijskimi pogoji. Uporablja se lahko za oceno materialov za uporabo v izdelkih, ki so lahko izpostavljeni čezmernemu termičnemu vplivu, kot je okvarni tok, ki teče skozi žico, preobremenitev komponent in/ali slabe povezave. Uporabljal naj se ne bi samo za opis ali oceno nevarnosti ali tveganja vžiga materialov, izdelkov ali sestavov pod dejanskimi pogoji požara. This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 60695-2-12:2010; it was approved by CENELEC on 2014-03-19. CENELEC

status of a national standard without any alteration.
Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the CEN-CENELEC

This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language made by translation under the

testing, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60695-
2-12:2010/A1:2014.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of

The following dates were fixed:
