Abstract

To study the possibility of introduction of a separate document containing service interactions between all ISDN supplementary services. With the current approach, where the interactions are described in the standard of each supplementary service concerned, it is hard to keep track of where the latest version of the text is located. This trial document will contain the same set of approved supplementary services as the latest draft of the respective stage 3 interaction document. For this trial period the current approach will kept in parallel, i.e. for the supplemantary services currently under work, the interactions are described in the standard of each supplemenatry service.  Reference document: EN 300 195-1 V1.4.1/1998-06.

SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 is the Slovenian version of ETSI EG 201 817 V1.1.1, an ETSI Guide produced by ETSI Technical Committee Services and Protocols for Advanced Networks (SPAN). It gives stage one guidance on interactions between Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) supplementary services, so operators, implementers, and test teams can see how the services behave when used together. The document is presented as a trial consolidation of those interactions while service-specific standards continue in parallel.

What does SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 specify?

SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 specifies the interaction guidance for a wide set of ISDN supplementary services in pan-European public networks. Its purpose is to gather interaction text in one place, because the same material was previously spread across individual service standards.

The document is organized as a short front section and one long interaction clause, with definitions and references supporting the technical terms used throughout. Clause 4 is the core of the document: it lists pairs of supplementary services and states whether the interaction is not applicable, has no impact, or needs a detailed description.

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex A (informative)Interaction between the UUS supplementary service and the CD (after alerting) and the CFNR supplementary services

What are the key requirements of SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003?

The main technical content is the pairwise interaction behavior between supplementary services. In practice, the document tells a network designer or service provider what to do when two services are both present on the same call or subscription.

  • Clause 4 uses a matrix to map every service pair to either NA (Not Applicable), NI (No Impact), or a detailed interaction clause. This matters because it lets implementers quickly see which combinations need specific handling in the network.
  • Clause 4.9 sets the interaction between CCNR and CCBS. If a CCNR request can be processed, the network gives the user a CCNR recall or notification as defined in EN 301 134, cancels the destination B idle guard timer, and handles CCBS requests according to the CCBS service. For network design, this means recall queues and timer handling must be coordinated, not treated separately.
  • Clause 4.56 to 4.58 explains how AOC-S, AOC-D, and AOC-E interact with CONF. The document distinguishes between a conference started from idle state and one created from an active call, and it also distinguishes adding a call, creating private communication, and terminating the conference. The practical effect is that charging information must follow the conference structure, not just the original call structure.
  • Clause 4.176 states that if SCF was activated before OCB-UC, the SCF supplementary service is not affected. For operators, this is a stability rule: activating user-controlled outgoing barring must not unexpectedly change an already active selective call forwarding service.
  • Clause 4.201, clause 4.203, and Annex A describe UUS interaction with CD and CFNR. The document distinguishes explicit and implicit UUS requests, and whether the request is required or not required for the call to proceed. This matters because the call may need to be forwarded or deflected together with UUI, or the request may have to be rejected or overridden.
  • Clause 4.205 explains CONF with UUS. The conference controller can use UUS between the controller and individual conferees, but UUS is not used for communication between conferees themselves. UUI may be sent individually or broadcast by the conference controller, and the network must identify which conferee sent UUI to the controller.
  • Clause 4.86, clause 4.100, clause 4.106, and other self-interaction clauses show how the same supplementary service behaves with itself. These cases are useful for switch logic and service-state handling, because the network needs a defined answer even when both ends invoke the same feature.

What terms does SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 define?

The document defines key service terms so the interaction rules can be read consistently.

  • CCNR recall is the indication telling user A that the network is ready to initiate a CCNR call and is waiting for a response.
  • Conference controller is the served user who invokes CONF and controls adding and removing conferees.
  • Diversion is the general term for forwarding and deflection, where a call is redirected instead of being answered.
  • Freephone number is the number assigned under FPH and used together with a service access code to form the national part of an ISDN number.
  • No Impact (NI) means one supplementary service does not affect the operation of the other.
  • Not Applicable (NA) means the supplementary service has no interaction with itself.
  • User-to-User Information (UUI) is information carried by the UUS supplementary service.
  • Explicit request and implicit request describe how UUS is requested, either by a direct request or by sending UUI without an explicit activation request.

Who uses SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003?

SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 is used by European public telecommunications operators, network operators, and service providers that offer ISDN supplementary services. It is also relevant to engineers who design or maintain switches and signaling behavior, because the document shows how services interact at call setup, during a call, and when a call is forwarded, deflected, or conferenced.

Test laboratories and quality teams use it to check that implementations match the expected behavior for service combinations such as AOC, CCBS, CCNR, CFNR, UUS, and CONF. Buyers and product managers can also use it to confirm that a platform supports the service combinations they need in operational networks.

What changed in SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 from the previous edition?

The document is presented as a trial consolidation of stage one supplementary service interactions. The scope and introduction say that the same interactions continue to exist in the individual supplementary service standards during the trial period, so the approved standards remain in parallel while the interactions are collected in one place.

Which standards are used with SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003?

The document relies on service descriptions and related guidance for the individual supplementary services it compares.

  • EN 301 134 provides the CCNR service description and is explicitly used for the CCNR recall and timer handling in clause 4.9.
  • EN 300 195-1 is named as the reference document in the scope, and the bibliography also cites EN 300 195-1 V1.4.3 as the protocol specification for supplementary service interactions.
  • The ETSI service descriptions for CW, CLIP, MMC, CONF, CFB, CFU, CFNR, FPH, CCBS, ECT, CD, UUS, MWI, OCB-F, OCB-UC, SCF, MSN, TP, SUB, DDI, CLIR, COLP, COLR, MCID, CUG, HOLD, AOC-S, AOC-D, AOC-E, and 3PTY provide the behavior that each interaction depends on.
  • ITU-T E.164, I.112, I.210, and I.221 provide numbering, vocabulary, and service principles used in the definitions.

What does the SIST-V ETSI/EG 201 817 V1.1.1:2003 document contain?

The document contains one overview figure for the interaction matrix and a long set of pairwise interaction clauses in clause 4. Those clauses are used for service design and implementation because they state what happens when two supplementary services meet on the same call.

It also contains a detailed definitions clause, which is important for reading the interaction text correctly. Annex A adds a small decision table for UUS with CD (after alerting) and CFNR, showing how requests and UUI are forwarded or deflected in different request types.

The bibliography lists the service-description standards that support the interaction rules. For a reader, that means the document is not a full service specification by itself - it is the place to check how ISDN supplementary services interact and which companion standards define the services being combined.

Foreword
This ETSI Guide (EG) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Services and Protocols for Advanced
Networks (SPAN).
Introduction
In the present document the stage one of the ISDN supplementary service interactions have been collected into a single
document. With the current approach of the supplementary service standardization in ETSI, where the interactions are
described in the standards of each supplementary service concerned, it is hard to keep track of where the latest version
of the text is located. This trial document contains the same set of approved supplementary services as the latest version
of the respective stage three interaction document (EN 300 195-1 V1.4.3). For this trial period the current approach will
be kept in parallel, i.e. for the supplementary services currently under work, the interactions are described in the
standards of each supplementary service. Also the approved standards will not be modified by deleting the texts on
interactions.
