SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4 for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Conference call, add-on (CONF) supplementary service. It specifies the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol, so a supplier can declare which CONF functions and options an implementation supports when claiming conformance to EN 300 185-1.

What does SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the stage three definition of the CONF supplementary service in pan-European ISDN. It is written for implementations at the T reference point, or coincident S and T reference point, and it follows the conformance-testing approach of ISO/IEC 9646-7.

In practice, the document gives suppliers a structured questionnaire to complete. That questionnaire is used to state what the implementation supports, and it supports later conformance review against the protocol specification in EN 300 185-1.

The document is organized into:

  • Clause 1 - Scope
  • Clause 2 - Normative references
  • Clause 3 - Definitions
  • Clause 4 - Abbreviations
  • Clause 5 - Conformance
  • Annex A - PICS proforma
  • Annex B - Requirements list
  • Annex C - Changes with respect to the previous ETS 300 185-2
AnnexWhat it covers
Annex AThe PICS questionnaire and completion instructions
Annex BRequirements copied from related PICS proformas that must be reflected in the base forms
Annex CChanges compared with the previous ETS 300 185-2

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 is mainly about how to complete a conformance statement correctly. Its key requirement is that a PICS claiming conformity must match annex A in content, numbering and order, and must identify both the supplier and the implementation.

  • Clause 5 requires the PICS proforma to be technically equivalent to annex A and to preserve the numbering and ordering of its items. In practice, a supplier cannot rewrite the questionnaire in a different structure and still claim it is conformant.
  • Clause 5 and annex A require the completed PICS to describe an implementation that claims conformance to EN 300 185-1. This matters because the PICS is a declaration tied to the actual protocol specification, not a standalone form.
  • Annex A.1 requires identification of the Implementation Under Test (IUT), the System Under Test (SUT), the product supplier, the client and a contact person. In practice, this gives testers and buyers a way to link the declaration to a specific product and configuration.
  • Annex A.1.2 uses a global statement of conformance. If the answer is Yes, the later tables can be used to select optional test cases; if the answer is No, the non-supported mandatory capabilities must be identified and explained. That makes the PICS useful both for test planning and for recording exceptions.
  • Annex A.1.3 and table A.1 separate user and network implementations and make the Roles item mandatory for all implementations. In practice, the supplier must say whether the implementation behaves as a user, a network, or both, because the later requirements depend on that choice.
  • Tables A.2 and A.6 set out the major CONF capabilities for user and network implementations, including invocation from idle state, adding a party, isolation, reattachment, splitting, disconnection and conference termination. For a reader, these are the main feature checkpoints that show how far the implementation supports conference control.
  • Tables A.3 to A.9 focus on protocol data units, parameters, facility information element components and notification indicator codepoints. This is important because conformance is not only about features, but also about the exact messages and information elements exchanged on the wire.
  • Annex B links this proforma to the related basic call, generic functional protocol and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas. In practice, it tells the supplier which related items must be reflected in those companion forms and how optional or conditional status carries over.

What terms does SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 defines the terms used to complete and interpret the PICS.

  • Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - a statement from the supplier saying which capabilities of an OSI implementation are implemented for a given protocol.
  • PICS proforma - a questionnaire form that becomes the PICS once it is completed for a specific implementation or system.
  • static conformance review - a comparison between the completed PICS and the static conformance requirements in the relevant standard.
  • Implementation Under Test (IUT) - the implementation being evaluated for conformance.
  • System Under Test (SUT) - the system in which the IUT resides.
  • System Conformance Statement (SCS) - a document that summarizes which standards are implemented and what conformance is claimed.
  • CONF - the Conference call, add-on supplementary service.
  • DSS1 - Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one.

Who uses SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by suppliers of ISDN DSS1 implementations, conformance test teams, and product teams that need to declare support for CONF. It is also useful to quality managers and buyers who want a structured statement of which conference-call capabilities, message elements and notification behaviors are supported.

The document is especially relevant where both user-side and network-side behavior must be declared. That includes public telecommunications operators, private ISDN implementations and labs that prepare or review conformance documentation.

What changed in SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 is based on the previous ETS 300 185-2 and updates the references used for the basic call specifications. The changes stated in the document are:

  • conversion to EN layout
  • replacement of references to ETS 300 102 with EN 300 403
  • replacement of references to I-ETSs with EN 300 403
  • substitution of non-specific references to basic standards where the intention is to refer to the latest version

The foreword also says that this version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005?

ReferenceWhat it contributes
EN 300 185-1The CONF protocol specification that the PICS refers to
EN 300 403-1The basic call control signalling network layer specification
EN 300 403-3The basic call PICS proforma used in Annex B references
EN 300 195-2The supplementary service interactions PICS proforma used in Annex B references
EN 300 196-2The generic functional protocol PICS proforma used in Annex B references
ISO/IEC 9646-1Conformance testing concepts, including PICS and static conformance review
ISO/IEC 9646-7Guidance for Implementation Conformance Statements and tabular proformas
CCITT Recommendation I.130The stage three method for characterizing telecommunication services
ITU-T Recommendation I.411Reference configurations for ISDN user-network interfaces

What does the SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 document contain?

SIST EN 300 185-2 V1.2.4:2005 contains a completed-form questionnaire structure, not a protocol description. Annex A gives the identification fields, the global conformance statement, and tables for roles, capabilities, protocol data units, parameters, timers and call states for both user and network implementations.

Annex A also includes the facility information element components and notification indicator codepoints that matter for CONF messaging. Annex B lists related requirements that feed into the base PICS proformas for basic call, generic functional protocol and supplementary service interactions.

For a practical user, the value of the document is that it turns protocol support into a checkable declaration. That helps with supplier statements, internal reviews, interoperability planning and conformance testing because the same items can be referenced consistently across the related PICS forms.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Conference call, add-on (CONF)
supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.
