SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of EN 300 188-2 Version 1.2.4, an ETSI standard for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Three-Party (3PTY) supplementary service over the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It specifies the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma that suppliers use to declare which parts of the 3PTY protocol specification they implement. In practice, it is used to document conformance to EN 300 188-1 and to support static conformance review and test selection.

What does SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?

SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the stage three description of the ISDN 3PTY supplementary service using DSS1. It is the questionnaire and completion framework for declaring implementation support, not the protocol specification itself.

The standard applies to the pan-European ISDN at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point. It is written for implementations that claim conformance to EN 300 188-1, and it follows the guidance of ISO/IEC 9646-7 for conformance statements.

The document is organized as follows:

AnnexWhat it covers
Annex ANormative PICS proforma, including completion instructions, identification fields, roles, and user/network support tables
Annex BNormative requirements list that links this PICS to related base PICS proformas
Annex CInformative summary of changes relative to the previous ETS 300 188-2

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005?

The core requirement in Clause 5 is that any conforming PICS must be technically equivalent to Annex A and keep the numbering and order of the Annex A items. That matters because test tools and reviewers rely on the structure to compare declarations consistently.

Clause 5 also requires a PICS to describe an implementation that claims conformance to EN 300 188-1, to be completed according to the instructions in Annex A.1, and to identify both the supplier and the implementation. In practice, this means the form must be tied to a specific product or software build, not a generic family name.

Annex A.1 requires the implementation record to identify the Implementation Under Test (IUT), the System Under Test (SUT), hardware configuration, operating system, supplier, client, and a contact person. This gives conformance reviewers enough context to trace the declaration back to the actual installed system.

Annex A.1.3 splits the form into a Roles item and then separate User and Network parts. The User clause is completed only for user implementations, including private network implementations, while the Network clause is completed only for network implementations. This matters because a product may support only one side of the service.

Annex A.6 to A.8 organize the technical declaration around:

  • major capabilities
  • subsidiary capabilities
  • protocol data units
  • protocol data unit parameters
  • timers
  • call states

For 3PTY, the most visible capabilities are the request for a three-way bridge, disconnecting one or both connections of the bridge, creating private communication with one remote user, remote-user call termination, and conference notifications. These items show what the implementation can actually do at call control level.

Annex A also separates support for the served user and the remote user, and distinguishes user-side and network-side behavior. The practical effect is that the same service can be declared differently depending on where the implementation sits in the ISDN relationship.

Annex B adds the cross-document requirements that link this PICS to the base PICS proformas for basic call, generic functional protocol, and supplementary service interactions. For implementers, this means 3PTY conformance depends not only on the 3PTY items themselves, but also on the supporting call-control, FACILITY, NOTIFY, and interaction items in the related base specifications.

What terms does SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?

  • Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - A supplier statement that identifies which capabilities of an OSI protocol implementation are supported.
  • PICS proforma - The questionnaire format that is completed to produce the PICS for a specific implementation.
  • Static conformance review - The comparison of the completed PICS with the static conformance requirements in the relevant standards.
  • Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The implementation being assessed for conformance.
  • System Under Test (SUT) - The full system or platform in which the IUT resides.
  • System Conformance Statement (SCS) - A document that summarizes which standards are implemented and claimed for a system.

Who uses SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005?

SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by suppliers of ISDN DSS1 implementations who need to state exactly what their product supports. It is also used by network and user-side implementers who must complete the correct parts of the PICS for their role.

Conformance test teams and standards reviewers use the PICS to check whether an implementation claims the right items and to select relevant test cases. Quality managers and buyers use it to compare declared support between products, especially when a project needs 3PTY behavior on the user side, the network side, or both.

The Annex A identification fields also show that the document is intended for real product administration: supplier details, client details, and a named contact person are all part of the record.

What changed in SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?

Annex C states three changes relative to the previous ETS 300 188-2:

  • conversion to EN layout
  • replacement of references to ETS 300 102 and associated I-ETSs with EN 300 403
  • replacement of non-specific references to basic standards with the latest version where that was intended

The foreword also says that the present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005?

StandardWhat it contributes
EN 300 188-1The 3PTY protocol specification that this PICS supports and against which conformance is claimed
EN 300 195-1Supplementary service interactions protocol specification
EN 300 195-2Supplementary service interactions PICS proforma, referenced in Annex B
EN 300 196-1Generic functional protocol for support of supplementary services
EN 300 196-2Generic functional protocol PICS proforma, referenced in Annex B
EN 300 403-1Basic call control protocol specification for circuit-mode basic call
EN 300 403-3Basic call control PICS proforma used in Annex B for related items such as NOTIFY and Notification indicator
ISO/IEC 9646-1General conformance testing concepts and framework
ISO/IEC 9646-7Rules for implementation conformance statements and proforma presentation
CCITT Recommendation I.130Method for characterizing ISDN services
ITU-T Recommendation I.411ISDN user-network reference configurations

What does the SIST EN 300 188-2 V1.2.4:2005 document contain?

The document is mainly a structured set of tables and instructions for completing a PICS. Annex A contains the completion guidance, identification blocks, global conformance statement, role selection, and the user and network capability tables.

Those tables cover items such as Begin3PTY and End3PTY facility information elements, notification indicators like conference established, conference disconnected, and remote hold, plus role-specific support declarations. Annex B repeats selected requirements from the related base PICS proformas so the 3PTY declaration stays aligned with the basic call, generic functional, and supplementary service interaction requirements.

For a reader, the document is therefore a conformance declaration form with traceable references. For a test or review team, it is the checklist that shows which functions, message elements, and notification values need to be declared for a specific implementation.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Three Party (3PTY) supplementary
service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.
