SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian adoption of the ETSI standard for the ISDN Connected Line Identification Restriction (COLR) supplementary service, Part 2. It is a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma that tells a supplier how to declare which COLR DSS1 protocol features an implementation supports, for both user and network sides.

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 matters when you need a structured conformance declaration for COLR rather than the protocol specification itself. It is written for suppliers, implementers, and test teams who need to state capabilities, options, and supported parameters in a way that can be checked against EN 300 098-1.

What does SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the ISDN DSS1 COLR supplementary service. In practice, it defines how an implementation claims conformance to EN 300 098-1 and how that claim is recorded for static conformance review.

The scope places the standard in stage three of the COLR supplementary service for pan-European ISDN, at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, using DSS1. The foreword also places it in a six-part series covering protocol specification, PICS, test suite structure and test purposes, ATS, and PIXIT proformas for user and network.

The document is organized around:

  • Clauses 1 to 5, which cover scope, normative references, definitions, abbreviations, and conformance.
  • Annex A, which is the normative PICS proforma to complete.
  • Annex B, which is a normative requirements list for related base PICS items.
  • Annex C, which gives the change summary against the previous ETS edition.
AnnexWhat it covers
Annex APICS proforma for identification, roles, user and network capabilities, and key protocol data items
Annex BRequirements list for items used in the basic call PICS and supplementary service interactions PICS
Annex CInformative summary of changes from the previous ETS 300 098-2

What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005?

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 requires a completed PICS that matches annex A and preserves its numbering and order. A conforming PICS must describe an implementation that claims conformance to EN 300 098-1 and must identify both the supplier and the implementation.

Conformance and completion rules

Clause 5 says a conforming PICS proforma has to be technically equivalent to annex A. That matters because test teams and purchasers can compare one completed form with another without losing the structure needed for automated or manual review.

Annex A.1 sets the completion rules:

  • Identify the Implementation Under Test (IUT), the System Under Test (SUT), the supplier, the client, and a contact person.
  • State the relationship between the PICS and any System Conformance Statement (SCS).
  • Complete the global conformance statement.
  • Use the user section only for user implementations, and the network section only for network implementations.

Roles and implementation type

Annex A.6 defines the role selection for user and network implementations. The form distinguishes whether the implementation supports user requirements, network requirements, or both, and it separates served user and calling user, then served user and calling user at the network interface.

This matters because the same COLR service can be implemented on different sides of the interface, and the conformance statement has to match the actual role of the product or system.

User-side capabilities

Annex A.7 covers user implementations. The main user-side capability is support for COLR on a temporary mode, per-call basis, for the served user. That means the implementer must declare whether the user side can request or handle per-call restriction behavior.

Annex A.7.4 also asks about CONNECT Protocol Data Unit (PDU) parameters. For the user side, the Connected number information element and its Presentation indicator are relevant, with support for presentation allowed or presentation restricted where applicable. In practice, this tells you whether the implementation can carry the connected number information needed by the service.

Network-side capabilities

Annex A.8 covers network implementations. The destination network side must declare provision of COLR on a temporary, per-call basis. The form also lets the implementer state whether the network supports a default value for presentation restricted or not restricted, and whether permanent mode is supported.

Annex A.8.4 includes the Connected number information element received by the network at the served-user interface. That is the network-side mirror of the user-side PDU data and is important for interworking and message handling.

Relationship to basic call and other services

Annex B repeats selected requirements from the base basic call and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas. This avoids duplicating all of the base material while still recording the extra COLR-related restrictions.

For user implementations, Annex B ties COLR to incoming calls in the basic call PICS and to interactions with other supplementary services. For network implementations, it states that there are no additional restrictions on basic call, while the supplementary service interactions PICS includes CLIP-related interactions with other implemented supplementary services. That helps test planners know which base forms need to be completed alongside this one.

The tables also use the standard ISO/IEC 9646-7 status logic: mandatory, optional, not applicable, and grouped options. In practice, that tells a supplier which items must be supported and which items only need to be answered when a particular option is chosen.

What terms does SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?

  • PICS - A Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement, meaning the supplier’s declaration of which capabilities a specific OSI implementation supports.
  • PICS proforma - A questionnaire-style document that becomes a PICS when it is completed for a real implementation.
  • IUT - Implementation Under Test, the actual product or system being assessed.
  • SUT - System Under Test, the system in which the IUT resides during conformance assessment.
  • SCS - System Conformance Statement, a document that summarizes the standards and conformance claims for the system.
  • COLR - Connected Line Identification Restriction, the ISDN supplementary service covered by this standard.
  • DSS1 - Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one, the protocol used here for the ISDN user-network signaling.

Who uses SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005?

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by suppliers of COLR implementations, telecom equipment developers, and conformance test teams. It is also relevant to buyers and quality managers who need a formal statement of which COLR functions are present in a user or network product.

In practice, it supports completion of PICS forms, selection of test cases, and static conformance review against EN 300 098-1. Public telecommunications operators and other ISDN network providers use it when they need to document network-side support for the service.

What changed in SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 replaces the earlier ETS 300 098-2 edition. Annex C states that the update includes conversion to EN layout, replacement of references to ETS 300 102 and associated I-ETSs with EN 300 403, and substitution of non-specific basic-standard references with versions intended to point to the latest edition.

Which standards are used with SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005?

  • EN 300 098-1 - The protocol specification that this PICS applies to.
  • EN 300 097-1 - The related COLP supplementary service protocol specification.
  • EN 300 403-1 - The basic call control protocol specification used for core ISDN signaling references.
  • EN 300 195-1 - The protocol specification for supplementary service interactions.
  • EN 300 195-2 - The PICS proforma for supplementary service interactions.
  • EN 300 403-3 - The PICS proforma for the basic call control signaling network layer.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-1 - The general conformance testing framework used for PICS concepts.
  • ISO/IEC 9646-7 - The part of the framework that covers implementation conformance statements.
  • CCITT Recommendation I.130 - The method used for characterizing telecommunication services.
  • ITU-T Recommendation I.411 - The reference configurations for ISDN user-network interfaces.

What does the SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 document contain?

SIST EN 300 098-2 V1.2.4:2005 contains a fill-in PICS form, not a protocol narrative. Annex A includes identification fields, a global conformance statement, role selection, and tables for user and network capabilities, protocol data units, parameters, timers, and call states.

Annex B contains the requirements list that links this COLR PICS to the basic call and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas. Annex C provides the change summary for users who need to compare it with the previous ETS edition.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Connected Line Identification
Restriction (COLR) supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

1 Scope
This second part of EN 300 098 is applicable to the stage three of the Connected Line Identification Restriction (COLR)
supplementary service for the pan-European Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) as provided by European
public telecommunications operators at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point (as defined in ITU-T
Recommendation I.411 [10]) by means of the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. Stage
three identifies the protocol procedures and switching functions needed to support a telecommunications service (see
CCITT Recommendation I.130 [9]).
The present document provides the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the ISDN
DSS1 COLR supplementary service protocol as specified in EN 300 098-1 [2] in compliance with the relevant
requirements and in accordance with the relevant guidance given in ISO/IEC 9646-7 [8].
The supplier of a protocol implementation which is claimed to conform to EN 300 098-1 [2] is required to complete a
copy of the PICS proforma provided in annex A of the present document and is required to provide the information
necessary to identify both the supplier and the implementation.
