EN ISO 18082 specifies the dimensions and the allocation of non-interchangeable screwthreaded (NIST) connectors intended to be used at nominal operating pressures not greater than 1 400 kPa, and for vacuum between 90 kPa subatmospheric and 500 kPa positive pressure. This International Standard specifies NIST-connectors intended for use with the following medical gases: - oxygen, - nitrous oxide, - medical air, - helium, - carbon dioxide, - xenon, - specified mixtures of the gases listed above, - oxygen-enriched air, - air for driving surgical tools, - nitrogen for driving surgical tools, and for use with vacuum. The information to be supplied by the manufacturer is excluded from the scope of this International Standard because information about the use of NIST connectors is supplied by the manufacturer of each medical device to which the connectors are permanently fitted.

1.1 Diese Internationale Norm legt die Maße und die Zuordnung von nichtverwechselbaren
Verbindungsstücken mit Schraubgewinde (NIST) fest, die zur Verwendung bei einem Nenn-Betriebsdruck von
nicht mehr als 1 400 kPa vorgesehen sind, und bei Vakuum für einen Druck zwischen 90 kPa (Unterdruck)
und 500 kPa.
1.2 Diese Internationale Norm legt die Anforderungen für NIST-Verbindungsstücke fest, die zur
Verwendung mit den folgenden medizinischen Gasen vorgesehen sind:
- Sauerstoff;
- Lachgas;
- medizinische Luft;
- Helium;
- Kohlendioxid;
- Xenon;
- spezifizierte Gemische der oben genannten Gase;
- mit Sauerstoff angereicherte Luft;
- Luft zum Betreiben chirurgischer Werkzeuge;
- Stickstoff zum Betreiben chirurgischer Werkzeuge;
und zur Verwendung mit Vakuum.
ANMERKUNG Niederdruckschlauchleitungssysteme zur Verwendung mit medizinischen Gasen sind in ISO 5359
festgelegt.
1.3 Die Informationen des Herstellers sind nicht Gegenstand dieser Internationalen Norm, da Informationen
über die Anwendung von NIST-Verbindungsstücken vom Hersteller jedes medizinischen Gerätes
bereitgestellt werden, an das die Verbindungsstücke fest angebracht sind.
ANMERKUNG Umweltgesichtspunkte werden in den entsprechenden Internationalen Normen für die medizinischen
Geräte betrachtet, an die die NIST-Verbindungsstücke angebracht sind.

L'ISO 18082:2014 spécifie les dimensions, l'affectation et le marquage des raccords à tête filetée non interchangeables (NIST) destinés à être utilisés à des pressions de service allant jusqu'à 1 400 kPa et, pour les systèmes de vide, à des pressions absolues inférieures à 60 kPa.
L'ISO 18082:2014 spécifie les exigences relatives aux raccords NIST destinés à être utilisés avec les gaz médicaux suivants:
oxygène;
protoxyde d'azote;
air médical;
hélium;
dioxyde de carbone;
xénon;
mélanges spécifiés des gaz précités;
air enrichi en oxygène;
air pour les instruments chirurgicaux;
azote pour les instruments chirurgicaux;

Standard EN ISO 18082 določa mere in dodelitev nizkotlačnih priključkov z navojem, ki se ne menjajo (NIST), namenjenih za uporabo pri nominalnih delovnih tlakih, manjših od 1 400 kPa in v vakuumu med 90 kPa podatmosferskega tlaka in 500 kPa pozitivnega tlaka. Ta mednarodni standard določa nizkotlačne priključke z navojem, ki se ne menjajo, za delo z naslednjimi medicinskimi plini: – kisik, – dušikov oksid, – medicinski zrak, – helij, – ogljikov dioksid, – ksenon, – določene mešanice zgoraj naštetih plinov, – s kisikom obogaten zrak, – zrak za pogon kirurških instrumentov, – dušik za pogon kirurških instrumentov in za uporabo v vakuumu. and respiratory equipment” in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 215 “Respiratory and

text or by endorsement, at the latest by December 2014, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn

Introduction
This International Standard has been prepared in response to the need for a safe method of connecting
medical equipment intended to administer medical gases to patients or power medical devices.
Medical gases are stored in cylinders or cryogenic vessels, or can be produced on site; several medical
devices (e.g. pressure regulators, hose assemblies, flow-metering devices, lung ventilators, anaesthetic
workstations) can be fitted between the source of supply and the medical device. At each interface gas-
specific connectors are needed to ensure that the intended medical gas is administered to the patient.
While the desirability of achieving agreement on a single International Standard for screw-threaded
connectors has never been in doubt, the present pattern of usage has made such agreement impossible.
Nevertheless, fears that proliferation of individual national standards or practices will eventually result
in potentially dangerous cross-connection between components for different gases have led to the choice
of several different connector systems, all of which are intended to be incompatible with each other.
This International Standard specifies the dimensions and the allocation of non-interchangeable screw
threaded (NIST) connectors for use with medical gases.
