SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 is the Slovenian standard identical to EN 300 182-2 Version 1.2.4, published by SIST and based on an ETSI European Standard. It specifies the Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Advice of Charge (AOC) supplementary service using the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one (DSS1) protocol. It is meant for suppliers, implementers, and conformance testers who need to declare what a user or network implementation supports.
What does SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 specify?
SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 specifies the PICS proforma for the stage three AOC supplementary service in pan-European ISDN at the T reference point or coincident S and T reference point, using DSS1. It is the conformance questionnaire for EN 300 182-1, not the service protocol itself, and it follows the conformance-testing approach of ISO/IEC 9646-7.
The document is organized into clauses for scope, normative references, definitions, abbreviations, and conformance, followed by three annexes.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | Normative PICS proforma, including instructions, identification fields, roles, user and network capability tables, and parameter tables |
| Annex B | Normative requirements list that maps related basic call, generic functional protocol, and supplementary service interactions items |
| Annex C | Informative summary of changes from the previous ETS 300 182-2 |
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005?
Conformance has to follow Annex A
SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 requires a conforming PICS proforma to be technically equivalent to Annex A and to keep the same numbering and order of items. In practice, this means a supplier cannot reorder the questionnaire or drop items when preparing a conformance statement.
Clause 5 also requires a conforming PICS to describe an implementation that claims conformance to EN 300 182-1, to be completed according to Annex A.1, and to identify both the supplier and the implementation. That matters because the PICS is used as a traceable declaration before testing starts.
The implementation identification must be complete
Annex A asks for identification of the Implementation Under Test (IUT) and System Under Test (SUT), plus supplier, client, and PICS contact person details. It also asks for the relationship between the PICS and the System Conformance Statement (SCS).
In practice, this is the administrative basis for test planning and review. It lets a lab or customer link the conformance statement to a specific product, configuration, and point of contact.
User and network implementations are treated separately
Annex A separates the PICS into a Roles subclause and then into user and network parts. The User clause is completed only for user implementations, including private network implementations, while the Network clause is completed only for network implementations.
This matters because the standard asks different questions depending on which side of the interface you implement. A supplier can declare user support, network support, or both, but the relevant tables have to match the implementation type.
The PICS records AOC capability by service variant and call phase
Annex A asks whether the implementation supports AOC-S, AOC-D, and AOC-E. It also asks about charging information during call establishment, the Active state, and call clearing, and about receipt of charging information without bearer establishment for AOC-E.
In practical terms, the supplier has to state which timing of charging information delivery the implementation handles. That helps buyers and testers see whether the product supports charging at set-up time, during the call, or at the end of the call.
The PICS also checks charging formats and protocol components
Annex A includes support for charging information as currency, charging units, and special charging arrangement on the user side, and corresponding support on the network side. It also lists Facility information element components, including ChargingRequest, AOCSCurrency, AOCSSpecialArr, AOCDCurrency, AOCDChargingUnit, AOCECurrency, and AOCEChargingUnit.
This is important because the PICS is not only about service names but also about how the protocol carries charging data. A tester uses these answers to select the right message and parameter cases.
Annex B links this part to related PICS proformas
Annex B repeats selected items from the basic call, generic functional protocol, and supplementary service interactions PICS proformas. It uses the same item numbering as EN 300 403-3, EN 300 196-2, and EN 300 195-2, and it shows which items are conditional or optional in the related base proformas.
For users and network implementations, this means the AOC PICS does not stand alone. It tells you which additional answers are needed in the base PICS documents so that the AOC declaration is complete.
The notation has a direct meaning for completion
Annex A uses the status notation M, O, N/A, and O.n, and the support notation Y and N, in line with ISO/IEC 9646-7. It also explains that some options are mutually exclusive or require at least one choice in a group.
This matters because the symbols control how you answer each row of the PICS. They show whether something is mandatory, optional, not applicable, or one of several selectable variants.
What terms does SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 define?
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) - A statement by the supplier that identifies which capabilities of an Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) implementation are implemented for a given protocol.
PICS proforma - A questionnaire-style document that becomes the PICS when it is completed for a specific implementation or system.
Static conformance review - A comparison of the completed PICS against the static conformance requirements in the relevant standards.
Implementation Under Test (IUT) - The implementation whose conformance is being described and reviewed.
System Under Test (SUT) - The system that contains the IUT and is identified together with it in the PICS.
System Conformance Statement (SCS) - A document that summarizes which standards are implemented and to which conformance is claimed.
AOC-S, AOC-D, AOC-E - The three AOC variants for charging information at call set-up time, during the call, and at the end of the call.
Who uses SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005?
SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 is used by protocol suppliers, product teams, test laboratories, and conformance assessors working on ISDN DSS1 implementations. It is also used by clients or buyers who need a structured statement of supported AOC capabilities before acceptance or interoperability work.
The document is relevant to both user-side and network-side implementations, including private network implementations on the user side and public telecommunications operator networks at the ISDN reference points named in the scope. In practice, users of the standard complete the PICS, review optional features, and prepare for static conformance checking against EN 300 182-1.
What changed in SIST EN 300 182-2 V1.2.4:2005 from the previous edition?
The informative change summary says the document was converted to EN layout, references to ETS 300 102 were replaced with EN 300 403, references to I-ETSs were replaced with EN 300 403, and non-specific references to basic standards were changed so they point to the latest version when that is the intended meaning.
The foreword also says this version updates the references to the basic call specifications.

Foreword
This European Standard (Telecommunications series) has been produced by ETSI Technical Committee Signalling
Protocols and Switching (SPS).
The present document is part 2 of a multi-part standard covering the Digital Subscriber Signalling System No. one
(DSS1) protocol specification for the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Advice of Charge (AOC)
supplementary service, as described below:
Part 1: "Protocol specification";
Part 2: "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma specification";
Part 3: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the user";
Part 4: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the user";
Part 5: "Test Suite Structure and Test Purposes (TSS&TP) specification for the network";
Part 6: "Abstract Test Suite (ATS) and partial Protocol Implementation eXtra Information for Testing (PIXIT)
proforma specification for the network".
To evaluate conformance of a particular implementation, it is necessary to have a statement of which capabilities and
options have been implemented for a given Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol. Such a statement is called a
Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS).
The present version updates the references to the basic call specifications.
