Overview
The oSIST prEN 6127:2024:2024 standard, developed by CEN and ASD-STAN, defines the specifications for aerospace-grade blind bolts with a 100° reduced flush head and high strength properties. This stainless steel blind bolt is designed specifically for aerospace applications, ensuring optimized performance, reliability, and safety in critical fastening scenarios. The document details the configuration, dimensions, tolerances, grip ranges, mass, materials, finishes, lubrication, and oversize options for these specialized blind bolts.
Key Topics
Configuration and Dimensions
The standard clearly specifies the bolt's exact configuration including the 100° reduced flush head design, serrated pin geometry, and sleeve details. Precise dimensional data with tolerances are provided to guarantee interchangeability and fit for aerospace assemblies.Material and Finish
Blind bolts covered by this standard are manufactured using high-strength stainless steel materials such as A-286 corrosion-resistant steel (CRES) and optionally Inconel 600. Finish types include passivated coatings per SAE AMS2700 and resin-based aluminum pigmented coatings for corrosion resistance and durability in aerospace environments.Grip Range and Mass
Detailed tables outline grip length ranges and corresponding mass values for bolts of diameter codes 05, 06, and 08. This ensures proper selection for differing panel thicknesses and weight considerations in aerospace structures.Lubrication and Installation
Recommendations for lubrication include options like solid film and molecular bonded dry film lubricants conforming to SAE and MIL specifications. These promote smooth installation while enhancing corrosion protection and durability.Performance Requirements
The standard stipulates static strength, tensile preload, and spindle retention values to assure mechanical reliability under aerospace operational loads.Oversize Options
First oversize bolt dimensions and grip ranges are additionally specified, allowing for alternative installation scenarios or rework situations where hole oversizing may occur.
Applications
The oSIST prEN 6127:2024 blind bolts are specially designed for aerospace manufacturing and maintenance applications, where high-strength, durable, and lightweight fastening solutions are essential. Typical uses include:
- Assembly of aircraft structural components
- Fastening of aerospace panels and skins requiring flush surface finish
- Situations requiring blind installation where access is only available from one side
- Maintenance and repair tasks with options for oversize bolts to address worn or damaged holes
- Environments demanding corrosion resistance and heat tolerance in line with aerospace standards
These blind bolts contribute to increased structural integrity, reduced weight, and improved service life of aerospace assemblies.
