Fasteners - Button head screws with reduced loadability - Part 1: Hexagon socket button head screws (ISO/FDIS 7380-1:2022)

This document specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket button head screws with reduced loadability due to head design, in steel and stainless steel, with metric coarse pitch threads M3 to M16, and with product grade A.
If, in certain cases, other specifications are requested, stainless steel grades can be selected from ISO 3506-1, and the dimensional options from ISO 888 or ISO 4753.
NOTE      The reduced loadability (related to the head dimensions in combination with penetration of the hexagon socket specified in this document) implies a limitation of ultimate tensile load shown by a specific marking (property class preceded by a zero). The loadability in the head is assumed to be 80 % of that in the thread for all sizes and all property classes, see Table 4.

Dieses Dokument legt die Eigenschaften von Schrauben mit abgeflachtem Halbrundkopf mit Innensechskant mit aufgrund der Auslegung des Kopfes reduzierter Belastbarkeit mit metrischen Regelgewinden M3 bis M16 in Produktklasse A fest.
ANMERKUNG Die reduzierte Belastbarkeit (bezogen auf die Kopfgeometrie in Kombination mit der in diesem Dokument festgelegten Eindringtiefe des Innensechskantes) bringt eine Begrenzung der Mindestbruchkraft mit sich. Es wird angenommen, dass die Belastbarkeit im Kopf 80 % der Belastbarkeit im Gewinde für alle Größen und alle Festigkeitsklassen beträgt, siehe Tabelle 3.
Falls in bestimmten Fällen andere Festlegungen benötigt werden, können Stahlsorten für nichtrostende Stähle aus ISO 3506-1 und Maßangaben aus ISO 888 oder ISO 4753 entnommen werden.

Le présent document spécifie les caractéristiques des vis à tête cylindrique bombée plate à six pans creux, à capacité de charge réduite du fait de la conception de la tête, en acier et en acier inoxydable, à filetage métrique à pas gros M3 à M16, et de grade A.
Si dans certains cas d’autres spécifications sont requises, les grades d’acier inoxydable peuvent être choisis dans l'ISO 3506‑1, et les options dimensionnelles dans l'ISO 888 ou l'ISO 4753.
NOTE         La capacité de charge réduite (du fait des dimensions de la tête et de la profondeur de pénétration du six pans creux spécifiées dans le présent document) implique une limitation de la charge de rupture à la traction, indiquée par un marquage spécifique (classe de qualité précédée d’un zéro). La capacité de charge dans la tête est considérée comme égale à 80 % de la résistance du filetage pour toutes les dimensions et pour toutes les classes de qualité, voir Tableau 4.

Foreword

This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2, Fasteners, Subcommittee SC 11,

Fasteners with metric external thread.

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 7380-1:2011), which has been technically

revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:

— the whole standard including title has been improved to clearly point out that these hexagon socket

button head screws have reduced loadability because of their head design (head dimensions and

penetration of the hexagon socket);

— the reference thread length b has been increased to 3d for partially threaded screws M16, so that

these screws can be tensile tested in accordance with ISO 3506-1 (b ≥ 3d is required to tensile test

screws with reduced loadability);

— the reference datum for the outer diameter of the bearing face has been specified in accordance

with other relevant product standards (see Figure 1), and the minimum values have been reduced

to d = d × 0,92 considering the manufacturing aspects for “button head” (see Table 1);

— the maximum depth of the hexagon socket t has been added (see Table 1);

— the new symbol w has been introduced in Figure 2 and Table 1 instead of the symbol w in order

to define the wall thickness between the bottom of the cylindrical hole (broached hole) and the

bearing face.

— the definition of r in Figure 1 has been changed to allow the offset of the centre of the radius from

the thread axis;

— the rules for the smallest and greatest standardized nominal lengths have been added (see Table 2);

— the minimum ultimate tensile loads were recalculated and have been changed to more precise

values for M3 (property classes 10.9 and 70), M4 (property class 70), M5 (property classes 8.8, 70

and 80), M6 (property classes 10.9 and 70), M8 (property class 70), M10 (property classes 10.9 and

70), M12 (property classes 8.8 and 80) and M16 (property classes 8.8, 70 and 80), see Table 4;

— property class 12.9/12.9 has been excluded for the screws with reduced loadability, and stainless

steel grades A3 and A5 have been deleted from default stainless steel grades in Table 3;

— a new Clause 6, Marking and labelling, has been added.
