ABSTRACT
This specification covers segmental concrete paving slabs manufactured for construction of pedestrian and roof applications for commercial and municipal projects where close dimensional tolerances for thickness, and/or length and width are not required. These slabs can be manufactured with a dry-cast, wet-cast, or hydraulically pressed process. Concrete units covered by this specification shall be made with lightweight or normal weight aggregates or both.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for segmental concrete paving slabs manufactured for construction of pedestrian and roof applications for commercial and municipal projects. These slabs can be manufactured with a dry-cast, wet-cast, or hydraulically pressed process.
Note 1: Pedestal-set applications and those applications subject to vehicular traffic may require alternate materials properties or structural support or both.  
1.2 Concrete units covered by this specification shall be made with lightweight or normal weight aggregates or both.
Note 2: If particular features are desired, such as weight classification, higher modulus of rupture, surface textures, finish, color, or other special features, such properties should be specified by the purchaser. Local sellers, however, should be consulted as to availability of units having the desired features.

The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers heavy vehicular paving bricks designed for use in streets, commercial driveways, aircraft taxiways, and other places where there is a high volume of heavy vehicular traffic. The bricks should be manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and subjected to firing. The high temperature heat treatment should develop sufficient fired bonds between the material particles to produce the required strength and durability. The units are designed for use in such places as streets, commercial driveways, and aircraft taxiways. These units are not intended for applications covered by Specifications C410 or C902.  
1.2 The requirements of this specification apply at the time of purchase. The use of results from testing of brick extracted from pavements for determining compliance with the requirements of this specification is beyond the intent of this standard.  
1.3 Units are manufactured from clay, shale, or similar naturally occurring earthy substances and subjected to a heat treatment at elevated temperatures (firing). The heat treatment must develop sufficient fired bond between the particulate constituents to provide the strength and durability requirements of this specification (see Terminology C1232).  
1.4 Brick may be shaped during manufacture by extruding, molding, or pressing. Brick may have spacing lugs, chamfered edges, or both.  
1.5 Use of this standard and the requirements herein to evaluate and corroborate the performance of a paving unit made from other materials, or made with other forming methods, or other means of binding the materials is not covered by the scope of this standard.

Standard Test Method for Surface Infiltration Rate of Permeable Unit Pavement Systems

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 This test method can be used for acceptance of surface infiltration of new permeable unit pavement systems.  
5.2 Tests performed at the same location across a span of years may be used to detect a reduction of infiltration rate of the permeable surface, thereby identifying the need for any remedial maintenance intended to increase the infiltration rates to predefined levels.  
5.3 The infiltration rate obtained by this method is valid only for the localized area of the pavement where the test is conducted. To determine the surface infiltration rate of the entire permeable pavement, multiple locations must be tested and the results averaged.  
5.4 The minimum acceptable infiltration rate is typically established by the design engineer of record or the municipality and can be a function of the design precipitation event.  
5.5 This test method can also be used to demonstrate the infiltration rate of a particular permeable unit pavement system if the drainage joints are filled with the aggregate that is specified for use in that system.
SCOPE
1.1 This test method covers the determination of the field surface infiltration rate of in place permeable unit pavement systems surfaced with solid interlocking concrete paving units, concrete grid paving units, or clay paving brick.
Note 1: For in-place pervious concrete, Test Method C1701/C1701M should be used. Test Method C1701/C1701M is functionally identical to this standard, but does not include the added provisions for positioning and securing the test ring to a discontinuous surface, which are detailed in this standard. Both tests methods give comparable results

4.1 This practice simulates the polishing action of vehicular traffic on coarse aggregates used in bituminous pavements.

Note 1: The quality of the results produced by this standard are dependant upon the competence of the personnel performing the procedure and the capability, calibration, and the maintenance of the equipment used. Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generally considered capable of competent and objective testing, sampling, inspection, etc. Users of this standard are cautioned that compliance with Specification D3666 alone does not completely ensure reliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors: following the suggestions of Specification D3666 or similar acceptable guideline provides a means of evaluating and controlling some of those factors.

1.1 This practice covers a laboratory procedure by which an estimate may be made of the extent to which different coarse aggregates may polish.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the daytime and nighttime color of retroreflective pavement marking materials, both painted and tape lines, including thermoplastic, epoxy and other types, used for traffic control lane markings and symbols on road surfaces. This specification is not applicable to the testing, for quality control purposes, of marking material without added drop-on beads. The performance requirements for which the marking materials shall be tested on and conform accordingly to are the daytime and nighttime chromaticity limits, retroreflectance, and daytime lightness limits (Y tristimulus coordinate).
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the daytime and nighttime color of retroreflective pavement marking materials used for traffic control lane markings and symbols on road surfaces.  
1.2 This specification applies to all retroreflective pavement markings (markings that include retroreflective optics residing on the surface) except structured pavement markings as defined in 3.2.5.  
1.3 This specification is not applicable to pavement markings that do not include retroreflective optics on the surface.  
1.4 This specification does not address any requirements other than the color of retroreflective pavement markings.

Standard Practice for Preparation of Compacted Slab Asphalt Mix Samples Using a Segmented Rolling Compactor

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 Asphalt slabs compacted with the rolling compactor can be used to obtain specimens for further testing, including bulk specific gravity following Test Methods D1188/D1188M, D2726/D2726M, and D6752/D6752M, fatigue performance characteristics following Test Methods D7460 and D8237 or AASHTO T 321, and Hamburg wheel-track testing following AASHTO T 324.  
5.2 Specimens to perform other standard tests could also be obtained, as long as their volume is contained within the volume of a slab.
Note 1: The quality of the results produced by this standard are dependent on the competence of the personnel performing the procedure and the capability, calibration, and maintenance of the equipment used. Agencies that meet the criteria of Specification D3666 are generally considered capable of competent and objective testing, sampling, inspection, etc. Users of this practice are cautioned that compliance with Specification D3666 alone does not completely ensure reliable results. Reliable results depend on many factors; following the suggestions of Specification D3666 or some similar acceptable guideline that provides a means of evaluating and controlling some of those factors.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers the fabrication of slabs of asphalt mix using an automated laboratory rolling compactor (RC). Compacted specimens are suitable for volumetric and physical property testing. This practice should not be used for acceptance or rejection of a material or for purchasing purposes.
